change the wires to tinned copper wire
Jeremy
I have a very old very small sounder that I run off a small sealed battery. The sounder has a small in-line fuse that I have to re-new each time I go fishing - the fuse an the wires that are soldered are always corroded off the fuse holder by the next time I want to go fishing. Suggestions wanted - thanks

Water resistant fuse holder (yellow rubber ones from jaycar) + inox
After you solder the wires into the end caps on one of those nice yellow holders....and before you apply the inox......soak them in metho and scrub the remaining resin off......( you are using resin cored solder not acid cored solder?)
The resin is hydroscopic and combined with salt ( or even fresh) water can greatly accelerate the corriosion.
If you cant get to jaycar...i have seen those yellow holders card packed under the jarvis walker marine brand, in my local #mart.
cheers
Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.
i would get rid of the inline fuse & grab a blade fuse & a water proof cover.

Blade fuses arent realy designed for protecting electronics, they are a bit slow to operate and you may not find an appropriate value.
I think you will be better of staying with a galss fuse and one of those nice yellow fuse holders.

both my x135 sounder & navman chartplotter came with blade fuse. had both for a while now & not 1 problem with either.

You can buy rated water proof fuse holders, I have not used them in marine but the real water proof ones may come at a price of around $30.00 each.
I think they are IP rated or somthing like that, hence the price.
Or just get the cheap water proof fuse holders and bog em up with waterproof silastic..
The great thing about silastic is you can just rip it off when your done or need to change a fuse.
cheers
Hi IRMC000
Try all the above and then disconnect your power from the battery each time you put the boat away
it may be electrolysis lots of early sounders had the same problem with the actual connections on the sounder
it stopped when the power and negative wires were both disconnected between use

fill it full of grease, i had same problem
I have no issue whit blade fuses when the designers have specifed them as they will have factored in their behaviour when engineering the product.
The yellow 3AG fuse holders shoeld be able to be had for about $5 each.. much les than $30...... they have good firm metla clips and a two part rubber boot that seals over. cheers

Yellow rubber fuse holders much less than $5 - I think it was about $4:?? for the holder plus two fuses from Jaycar - looks the goods
