    Braid cutting through anchor rope

Yesterday i hooked a spanish mackeral (just over 1m in length) using 50 lb braid line. During the ensuring fight the fish went under the boat and toward the front, then circled back toward the rear. i then noticed that my anchor retreival system buoy was floating off into the distance meaning that it had seperated from my anchor rope. When fish was landed i investigated the anchor rope only to find that it had been severed by the braid line passing through it (evidence was the blue colouring from the braid on the remaining bits of anchor rope). I mentioned this to a tackle shop owner this morning and he said that it is not that uncommon.

Something to keep in mind when chasing big fish whilst using braid, perhaps i will be carrying spare anchor and chain in future.

    Hi Mate,
my mate Thommo hooked a 20kg spanno at the pinns and it ran across the anchor rope of a big hydrofield and cut it through he went over to apologise after the fish was in the boat and the boat full of blokes were peeing themselves laughing but the owner was going off his nut he was offered $50 cash rounded up in the boat and he kept swearing so Thommo drove away and said get ......
a couple of months later another mate bought the hydrofield
not thinking it was the same boat he mentioned it to the bloke who went right off his bean again
he never said another word about it until he got out of the driveway and he near ran off the road laughing

    cheers

Now the question here is......was the hydrofield owner pissed because his rope was cut or......... because he could not catch a 20Kg spanno even in his dreams

    cheers
Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.

PMSL at that one. Used to be a common occurence at the Peak off Sydney when the Yellowfin were 'on' . Half the boats were drifting and half the boats had picks down. It was quite common for someone to hook a good 'fin and fight it through the myriad of anchor ropes, and have a few boats drifting that thought they were anchored....and that wasnt with braid, just common mono. Have been on the recieving and the decieving end......not worth getting angry about, it happens...just have a laugh and get on with catching the next fish. (mind you...pulling up the anchor rope from 70m and getting pinned by someones 2/O snapper rig that was wrapped around your anchor rope is not a pleasant experience) Oh the joys of close quarters fishing in popular areas. Never mind......keep smiling and as Monty Python says....'always look on the bright side of life'.

    Cheers

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges

Up here we Use Hussar as baits for real RED FISHS (SHSIIFDER)
