    Night Whiting Fishing?

    Hey Guys,

Ive been fishing for whiting up and down the Nerang River for past 6-12 Months and have found a few decent spots where we pick up some whiting but i always fish early morning till midday. I have recently heard a lot of people say that fishing for whiting at night is the way to go. Why is it?? I have finally convinced my dad to go tomorrow night. Is there anything ill need to change as how to attack the whiting at night.

I use light line, with small sinker above the swivel, a light leader (2-3kg), a bit of red tubing above a Mustad Baitholder Sz. 4 (fine worm) I use wriggler worms which seem to work well.

    Cheers Guys!!

    Re: Night Whiting Fishing?

Dylan the main reason i fish at night is because there is alot less boat traffic, which makes it alot more comfortable and the boat isnt swinging side to side all the time from the wake which makes whiting fishing difficult.Dont really have to change the way you fish.I dont use the red tube and use a long trace up to 1.5m long, swivel and 2 or 3 ball sinker.I never hold my rods and just lay them down the back of the boat and just watch for bites.I paint about a foot of the tips of my rods white also which makes them easier to see at night.Cheers Jamie

    Hey,

Thanks Jamie, I also tend to use a long trace 1-1.5m and also lay my rods down in the back, im yet to be out in our boat at night so im not all that sure about the lighting but painting the tips sounds like a good idea. Is there such thing as glow in the dark paint to use?.

You can get little chemical lights with tiny clips that hold the rod near the tip. Sure lets you know of the slightest nibble.

If you buy a bulk lot of 50 chemical lights from the mobs on EBAY they often throw in a few of the clips as an extra.

You can but paint and even rods that glow in the dark - some are battery powered and some where the tip just glows

FNQ I reckon you're fishing now, but I will bite anyway!

No doubt in my mind that the best time to fish for big 'ting is at night. Have caught many, many fish that way and the Nerang at night can be one busy place!

My favourite bait = small soldier crabs, 5 or 6 on a hook.

Ask anyone who has won a major comp when they consistantly catch their big whiting! NIGHTTIME.

    Re: Night Whiting Fishing?

In my experience, my biggest whiting have come at night, mainly in river systems, and mainly near bridges/stucture with overhead lighting and shadows. My preferred bait is fresh dead prawns(mainly because i could never get livies when i needed em). Yabbies would be a great bait, but you will need plenty of them, and worms are good too...depending on the area you are fishing. We are talking whiting of 35-45cm here (elbow slappers). For your average 25 - 35cm whiting....daytime over the flats is best.

    Nightime is the go.

You can find a good spot up the Nerang with about 2 or 3 boats pass in the hour at nite.

whitingwill cover alot more ground looking for a feed when not spooked.
