What is a 37kg rod???

Yeah Scott, my first thought was I had done one of my knots, was a little surprised to see all was still intact. I think now that if I took a little time with that fish I might have boated it, all in hindsight though, still I would rather loose the fish fair and square than give it to a shark it probably wouldn't have ever been eaten by.

More evolution needed for me to get it closer to right because I am fishing now as heavy as I am interested to go out there.

Just tonight finished filleting the fish from your honey hole, glad you think this trip we left a few still there for you later

I might just add here (and risk abuse) that 24KG fished to the max is about all you can do without a chair, and even 24KG will have you hurting for a long time.

I disagree totally Noel! If your using a properly set up harness 37 stand-up should be know real issue at all! A mate went 2 3/4 hrs on 37kg standup with much of that time on sunset on a big blue, now i wont say he wasn't hurting afterwards but 2 3/4 hrs is a long long time. As he got the fish i would say he fished 37 kg effectively This guy is only about 80 kg soaking wet btw!

Ian .... having fished 37kg a few times using well set up harness & gimbel ...... I'd hate to use that type of gear for a straight up & down fish for any prolonged period ....... & unless you use the right technique combined with good boat handling - I can see it being a real problem ......

I do agree (reluctantly) that you can fish 37 stand up, (with all the right gear) but for the "average joe" most would never push 24 to the limit for an extended time, sure you might use 130 at max for a jiffy, but try for an hour or two at the limit, it is a whole new ball game, been there and done that many times, I would prefer to use (say) 37KG line on a 24KG rod, it will be easier on the angler and have the added built in margin for error if something goes amiss.
