which gps/chartplotter?

how ya doin guys?

i've finally decided to buy myself a gps/chartplotter. and i'm taking the advice i received from this site and purchase a in built. now i'm after some more advice. i want to know what brand/model. i have about $700-800 to spend. i'll be fishing approx. 5 mile out and 30 metres deep. in and around the bay i live in. love to hear what you all think.

mate lowrance models seem to be great value for money and with a navionics chart card work great and ave very clear pictures and display geat info.

Not presently No. The dollar being what it is, the conversion including freight may actually cost u more! Investigate it by all means but I dont think pricing has changed much since I last looked and the dollar has fallen around 30% since March / April when it was nearly one for one.

In that time also, some units have fallen in price locally and with new models arriving there maybe some some super specials around. Bargin hard for best results. Everyone is keen to sell at the moment, some more so than others. Look for things like free fitting or reduced price on extras

Perhaps consider the second hand market for a combo. I'm sure the money u have to spend will go further and see you getting a colour combo with a larger screen. Perhaps even some Nav cards which, I believe, are essential.

Either way best of luck with your decision, its never an easy one

We have just picked up one of these. It looks great. I will reserve full judgement until it has has a fair bit of use. At $499 its hard to beat. I already had the card to suit
