what pound leader line should i put on 6lb spider wire and what length leader. i be target ing the usuals bream flathead and whiting and what length. and also is fluro carbon leader better than clear leader.
I normally chase flatties with 12lb fluro and i use 6lb for bream. Not that i normally chase them with plastics yet i'm having too much fun with the flaties.
Flatty's aren't leader shy, so there is no real need for long and light leaders. However, Bream on the other hand generally require long, light fluro leaders.
If you are just after and all round leader to cover all basis and don't want to be interchanging leaders, 8lb Fluro leader of about your rods length should be fine.
depends on whats around you when your fishing, if there is nothing to nasty i can down to 4lb flurocarbon leader for bream, if fishing near sharp rocks and what not i take it up to 6lb , i use 1 and 1/2 rod lenghts for my leader.
lighter line gets more hits but you may lose the odd one or two but ive found better to lose one and catch 5 , then only catch 2
Mate 8lb is fine for flaties if you are using lures but you might want to up it a bit if you are using bait as they can get the bait a long way down and rub through the leader with their teeth. A mate lost 2 rigs one after the other then uped it to 17lb the next cast landed a good flattie which had his other 2 hooks still in its mouth. Greedy bugger!
