    EPIRB & Currimundi

    Hi folks...

I dont go outside too much, and I was wondering if I need an EPIRB to fish the Currimundi reef and the Inner Gneerings?. I know I would be better with one, but what would the Fisheries people say?

    cheers all.

    1. If the area is defined as open water and more than 2nm from land then you will require an EPIRB

    2. If you are operating in open water more than 2nm from land without an EPIRB the fisheries don't have to say anything just write you an infringement notice as they should.

    quigley:

According to this web page the reef is about 2Km of the coast. If that's the case then you don't need one, however never make the assumption that you're an easy target to find bobbing up and down in the water by the rescue boat. And just remember to think of the passages on board - Their life in your hands as Skipper of the vessel.

and if you do buy one, make sure it has the 406MHz capability - hopefully no shop has any of the old 121 units...

    Hi Mike,

Currimundi: no, you would not need one
Inner Gneerings: I would say yes, some spots MAY be within 2 m, but you would not take the risk.

    Cheers
