    Yakkas in NQ

    Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone up north (Cairns) has come accross Yakkas (Yellowtail scad). If so where did you find them and how did you catch them. Reason I ask is I read and hear all over the place that they are awesome live bait. I wouldn't mind floating a couple of these fellas out on my next reef trip.

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Ron,

I figured that might have been the case. Have you been more successful in catching Macs using them as apposed to pillies?

If you do find them around cairns, let us know. I've been looking for them for a while and had no luck at the leads.

They are easy to catch on bait jigs around the leads in Townsville. Awesome live bait.

    Hey Coddie

Just wondering if you every found any Yakkas around the cairns Area. I'm keen as to give them a go. Even as a fresh bait.

I was on a charter in a marlin comp back in Aug and they pulled up on a spot around fitzroy and jigged a few up but I have no idea where we were?

    Thanks

    Hey Mate,

Ended up leaving late on my last trip so I just headed out without giving the leads a go. Maybe this weeked. I've just been dropping a small rig and picking up fusies for live bait. Soon as I need one I drop down and pick one up, can't get any fresher than that.

Let me know if you get onto some.

Jigged off Lucinda walk-on Jetty a while back and caught a few. They are great bait and even better sashimi

Used to go fishing off sand-pumping jetty on Goldcast with a small bottle of japanese soy sauce. Catch them and take fillets off straight away.skin the fillets and dip into soy and you have a great breakfast

Hey mate, i heard they catch them off Palm Cove jetty on bait jigs. Yellow tails, is word they used.

I caught a heap of mullet and herring in the inlet, they got hammered every drop on my mark. ;]
