Hard Body Lures to Leader?

Ive just started spinning with HB's, a spotty dog, but I need some help with connecting my leader to the lure. What knott do you use or do you use a snap link?

Ive found on retreive that my HB isn't retreiving in a natural fashion but spins with the retreive. Is this because I need to re spool my braid or I need to use a different knott?

Lefty loop knot is what i use on my HB's which don't have the split ring attached but if they do i just tie uni knot down on the split ring. The high end Jap lures have them & they put them on for a reason. I have never lost a lure using the split ring but have lost a few with the good old lefty..

I too use leftys loop and sometimes the perfection loop...

Tying a hard knot snug to the tow point will detract from the ation of the HB. Like the saint said, if a lure comes fitted with a small split ring or clip i will tie a uni or blood knot direct to that. The clip/ring acts as the loop and will give the lure a free range of movement.

I will not attached my own clip or ring if one is not supplied. Small HB's can fall out of tune real quick and lures that have them already supplied have been designed to perform with them already attached.

I reckon the uni loop knot is superior, strong & easy to tie once practiced, but each to their own...

Perfection Loop.

If ya lure swims off track to the right,Tweak ya tow point to tha left with some pliers.Tweak the tow point right if ya lure is swimming to tha left.

Only small adjustments should be neccessary.

I've been using the perfection loop on both hardbodies and jigheads resulting in increased hookups.

Guess it also depends on the gauge of the leader. I haven't used lures much (yet) on lighter line as mostly I have a 50lb leader for barra & bass.

I always use a non-slip loop knot (dunno the proper name for it) at the end of the leader. When tieing the knot I put a small 60lb Black Crane swivel inside the loop which I then attach to a Size 5 Owner split ring.

I use split ring pliers to put the lure on the split ring. I found it a good way to change lures regulary without cutting the leader & re-tieing knots plus there are no 'clips' involved which can sometimes fail.

The method would probably work on lighter lines. When tieing, try to get the loop nice & small so it has less chance of closing up on itself & flattening out during the retrieve. The loop allows the lure to move freely as the tow point is supposed to move back & forth across the loop (which it can't do if the loop closes up too much).

I use the Rapala loop knot (don't know it's real name but learnt it from the little diagram in the cd lure box many years ago).
No split ring attached,i tie straight to the lures tow point

Check the tow point on your lure,it may need tuning if it is spinning on retreive

On small hard bods I use a snap swivel a very small one to have minimal weight. On larger hardbods >3" I use either a Hawian snap or a loop knot unless im running a bit of single strand wire then its a haywire with a barrel roll.

In all honesty I get good results with the small swivel snaps before small lures as any twist that may be in the line is not transferred to the lure putting it off track. Mates that are loop knot demons and similar fishing abilities are not catching more fish than I do on almost any given day and I generally do not outfish them much either.

In very clear water I think a snap swivel might just put the bream off but most other fish it will not make a difference.

Most hits on hardbods are fairly aggressive anyway.

Like most of you guys I use a loop knot or a uni on to a split ring attacked to the tow point, have never noticed that one workes better than the other. As long as you test the action of the lure before setting it out and it swims freely you should be right.
