Suzuki SMIS 4" multi-function gauge
This is my first thread so bear with me, I have purchased a 2008 DF140 suzuki( model 1400IF881981) with standard guages.I am hoping somebody can help me as I would like to a fit the 4'' multifunction guage so that I can access fuel usage/flow e.t.c. Brownspoint Marine(USA)have advised that all I need is the 990C0-88001-KIT which includes the 4'' guage,SMIS power cable,t-connectors,terminating resistor120 ohm female, terminating resistor 120 ohm male,SMIS interface cable and extension cable plus the 990C0-88035 smis adaptor harness.
My question is before I purchase this can somebody explain in lamens terms how the guage is connected? I have downloaded the installation manual but it is not clear. When the multifunction guage is installed can I still run my anolgue guages e.g TACO(34200-93J11)and will all my( alarms - monitor) functions still operate.
Many thanks for taking time to veiw this thread, hoping for some good advice.

SeaFarer,
As Luke G said , no worries. I have the Multi function guage fitted to my 03 DF140. I also purchased the GPS module which gives you an economy & range readout when connected to the NMEA 2000 bus as well.
Connecting the guage is a piece of... The terminating go on the end of the 'bus' (the extension cable). You need a 'T' connector for each bus connection, ie power, engine interface, gps module, display unit (multifunction guage or sounder etc.)
If this is still confusing the Brownspoint site has NMEA2000 info & from memory the basic layout is also contained in the 'Multifunction Guage' installation guide, which you can download from Brownspoint.
It's a pity the Oz dollar is bad at the moment, I brought when it was about 85c.
Mine works fine most of the time but I lose the eng. info every now & then have a loose connection somewhere.
Also make sure you have the right connectors for your motor, I believe Suz. changed the connector on motors after 2007.
Hope this helps.
Frank
