    Matrix GPS

    Hi Guys

i am wondering if any one can give me any info on what is included into the humminbird matrix GPS adapter kit, i.e the sensor, cable, map card etc.

does this type of unit use a card based system or does it have most of the maps built in, i am planning on using it 90% of the time in and around the clarence river

    any info would be great

    Thanks Tony

    Hi Tony,

I don't think the Matrix system has a chart plotter as such. It is a fish finding system with basic GPS functions ie: your position and the ability to mark specific spots.
If you have the basic Matrix system you will need a GPS receiver and any other accessories like speed sensor as well. I don't think it has any mapping system in it and you can not use a card.

    Re: Matrix GPS

the Matrix GPS kit is an accessory add on for Matrix Sounders. If you have a "Matrix" Sounder then you can add this kit which includes a GPS antenna and the cable to connect it to your matrix sounder....then Whallah, you now have a combo sounder/Chart plotter. You don't need a speed sensor as the GPS does that for you. The Matrix sounder is preloaded with all the software, you just need the antenna/cable kit added to the sounder...Some of the Matrix range have a Card Slot where you can add a Navionics card for more detailed mapping....some don't. I have a Matrix 55x and it has the card slot, but the card i have does not cover south of the Gold Coast so I am actually looking at the detail on the built in Maps(that all Matrix Sounders Have) when I am using it around my local (Tweed region) waters. I've used it in the Clarence when on holidays and it showed me where to go on unfamiliar water, marker bouys, channels, reefs, wrecks....all the usual stuff.
Note: the built in map has full chart detail for 4nm around each major port/river system. once you are outside this area it reverts to a basic world map on the models that end with an 'X'. If you bought yours from the states....you'll only have a Map of the continental US of A. not much good if it doesn't have a card slot to add a navionics chart to.

    Cheers Roo.

OK, so my matrix 27 has no card system, and the 55 does have one. looks like you have to check your models.Thats worth knowing.

As roo and I said, the 'kit' is just the antenna. Everything depends upon which base model you have.
