    Peel Island 30/11/08

Hit Peel with Kyle pre-dawn yesterday. Despite blustery westerly winds we drifted a few of our favourite marks using small jerk shads. For the first time we rubbed some 'S' factor onto our plastics...

First drift yielded a 35cm squire for me and a brief hook-up for Kyle on a larger fish. Second drift a 37cm for Kyle and another lost fish (to me this time). The squire fairly smashed our plastics - usually on the drop.

It went quiet as the sun came up so we headed around to drift the east side of Peel. A few drifts yielded more squire (undersize), flathead, cod and a couple of parrot fish...Kyle had two huge hook-ups that threw the plastics with some big headshakes......

We then headed to Hanlon light where a couple of drifts gave Kyle a fair sized maori cod and two just undersize squire for me. Another couple of big hits that busted me off and one that bit Kyle's 6" plastic cleanly into two pieces - just missing the hook!

All fish released unharmed except for one small squire that left one of his eyes on my jighead! The 'S' factor worked a treat! Back home washing down the boat by midday.......

thanks for the report Pete. I am contemplating Peel on Friday subject to weather. So far 3 donuts over there. I am determined to break the drought. Good luck at Mondy this weekend.

It Beats any scientific water quality tests to know there are good fish around still, despite runoff and sediment from recent rain.

    Thanks for the report.

As roo said i always want, no need to land that large head shake that blows me off in the shallows time and time again and i will land that metre plus one day. Cheers and a S Factor seems to help on the bites.
