    abu revo v daiwa advamtage

    Hi all

I'm looking at getting a new low profile baitcaster for chasing jack and barra and so far I'm tossing up between the abu revo stx or the daiwa advantage. Any feedback on either of these reels would be greatly appreciated. also if anyone has one what rods have you guys got them on?

    Thanks

    Scotty

id go the advantage, unless you look at the abu toro 50 then id go that, (for barra anyway)

    Scotty,
Run with the advantage, top reel I matched mine with advantage rod 6'6'' can cast softs as far as spin outfits and handles barra with no troubles.

Nah, not neccessary. the drag on the STX is way more than you'll actually use. the Toro 50 might hold more line but the extra drag isn't an issue. The missus uses a Revo Premier which has about half as much drag as the STX.....didn't seem to be an issue for barra as we only use about 3kg of drag anyway....it performed really well.

That said, the Advantage is very popular. the only difference I'd say would be the physical size of the advantage is larger so you could pretty well just look at which one is more comfortable in your hand....on the rod.

only thing i dont like about the smaller revo's is once the drag starts to get over 5kg they start to get a bit sticky

Thanks for all the replies so far fellas. Sounds like the advantage is the go. Thas defrinantly what Im leaning to at this stage. Is the advantage rod the one with the eva handle?

    Cheers

    Hey guys,

Ok well i've owned a revo STX and still have an SX and have also owned the Advantage HSTA. Lovely reels all of them. However i think the Revo is superior, smaller was nicer for me and much better drag. Never had any trouble with smoothness even when running near max in the sticks with the revo's. Very tough little units indeed.

    Cheers

I find that revo a bit heavy maybe look at the premier the thing is a fair bit lighter but a little lighter on bearings aswell. I guess i'm picky coz I use a pixy, so if the weight doesn't matter i'd go the stx

Re: abu revo v daiwa advamtage

the Premier is similar in weight and physical size to an Alphas 103. the Difference in bearings from the STX is 5 less.....4 from the handle....and 1 from the left side of the levelwind. The Premier has only got one single carbon washer squeezed between 2 SS washers for its drag stack....the STX has 5 or 6! but the premier seems to provide plenty of hurt when needed.....up to about 3kg or so. The Daiwa Advantage is only rated to 4kg drag but if you add carbon washers you might get a bit more. The STX has a massive drag claim of 12kg!!!!dunno if that is very practical tho. I suppose it gives a little margin but really most people only use 3 or 4kg max when fishing 50lb braid.
They're all good reels, you should do well with any of them.

although im a daiwa man i would go the abu
theres no comparison between the two interms of spec and quality.
I have a zillion and an alphas and once had an advantage (sold it) and can tell you that unless ur buying a zillion dont get anything other than the revo
good luck with the fishing, make sure u put up plenty of pics when u get amongst em
