    Threadfin project in QLD

Hi guys. I'm working on a UQ/JCU project looking at biology (growth, spawning etc0 and movements of king threadfin along the QLD east coast and am interested in getting a few more samples, particularly from Townsville, Rocky, and the Mary and Brisbane Rivers. If anybody catches a king from these regions would it be possible to keep the frame (you can keep the fillets!) and catch details (with total weight) and give me a shout? We have drop off locations in Townsville and Rocky and I'll pick any up between Brisbane and the Mary River. Cheers Brad

local tackle store suggested a few months ago that there was an application in to pro fish the brissie river threadies.

Do you know if that is correct?

If I am lucky enough to nail one you can have the frame.

Thanks Colo, I might take you up on that. We'll see how we go in the Bris Riv. Anybody been catching any lately?

    Hey Brad,
I'm in Maryborough and they have been getting good catches of large threadies in the river from Saltwater Creek upto and around the Granville bridge, also a few reports from around beaver rock. Have a mate with local tackle shop so will pass message to keep frames for you.
    Cheers,

Are you talking blue salmon as well as threadies from Townsville region?

    Re: Threadfin project in QLD

Thanks Chong, that would be great. I'm happy to come to Maryborough to pick any up that you or anyone else may get, just need the frame (including head, guts and gonads). I've got a 'wanted poster' that I'm putting around tackle shops - if your mate is keen to get involved I'll send him one.
kingkev - my project involves kings only but there is work going on at JCU on the blues as well. Do you catch many kings around Townsville?

    bump - solid science!

I'm really happy that researchers are utilizing the forum. It's a positive step.

All the best with your research.
