    Ebay Purchase??

    G'Day Crew,

I am looking at buying a new fishfinder from Ebay. Seller is Mr_Boats, has anyone on this forum dealt with them before? He/She has 99.9% positive feedback........

They also have a "store" front available in NSW.

I am a bit concerned after reading the sticky post regarding possible fraud.

Any information would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Regards,

    Rob

mr_boats is actually a member here Rob.

And if you check the stick post thread regarding possible fraud you refer to, you will see that mr_boats has been one of the main people ring the alarm bells on the shonks.

6372 sales with 99.9% positive rating, can't get much better than that IMO. If you have any doubts on any aspect send him some questions to clarify and just follows the usual cautions on buying online.

    Good luck with your purchase.

    Outsider 1,

Thank you very much for your reply and information. That is great news. I was confident of purchasing from him with his feedback etc. but better to be safe than sorry.

I didn't associate his name in the "fraud" post with him as the ebay seller, I am a bit embarrased now

    Regards,

    Re: Ebay Purchase??

No need to be embarrassed Rob, easy to miss when you are reading lots of threads.

No such thing as a silly question either , except after the fact when you realise you were silly for not asking it!

    Cheers

    Darkhorse,

Eagle is the low end of the Lowrance range. Money does tend to buy better quality in the sounder world.

    Re: Ebay Purchase??

Like with all decent size eprey transactions phone the seller and if they don't give you a number and a physical address to collect from don't deal with them. Mr Boats helped everyone by pointing out what was going on with Ebay so I'm sure dealing direct but even paying paypal or credit card wouldn't be an issue as I don't think he has a high opinion of epray.

    Chers

Sounders - go better quality and you won't regret it as low end is really average gear. Save up and get somethong decent with full warranty etc

    Re: Ebay Purchase??

All of that is correct in finding out details and checking things out before you go ahead with the purchase. If someone has nothing to hide then I am sure they won’t mind answering a few questions and providing some answers to make the sale. However if you are the subject of someone doing something dodgy then report it to Ebay via their email and if you still don’t have any luck talk to the police. They look at Ebay fraud on a regular basis and know what to do. Having said that if you are dealing with someone overseas then you are at the mercy of the country you are dealing with.

    Re: Ebay Purchase??

Thank you all for your helpful and insightful replies. I ended up buying a Lowrance 510c from a retailer. Received it by courier today. Now I need someone to install it ( I am completely hopeless with tools ). Will need new transom pass through covers and cable clamps.....................

I have posted another thread requesting a reputable installer in Sydney area.

    Regards,

    Rob
