Yeh mate i've heard of it. Hinze has been stocked with cod which is the likely source however their natural range was ment to extend down most seq rivers once upon a time.
Was working in the Coomera River (near Canungra) today and my mate decided for an after work flick. Bloody third cast and line was zinging of the spool. We didn't know what it was going to be and honestly we weren't expecting to catch anything of 'angling' stature. All of a sudden up pops a ~1.5kg Mary River Cod! Well, was I p!ssed. Unfortunately he droped it at the bank trying to get it in but we managed a few action shots which I'll post later. He was using a Black 3" Paddle Tail on a 1/16 head.
Has anyone heard of this? I've heard of some in the Logan but never the Coomera.

Eastern Cod are native to the Coomera - last authenticated capture of a 'wild' fish was about the 1950's I belive (PS bass are also native to it - but I think there are a few passage barriers downstream - locals would know) - the original cos checked out coutesy of habitrat decline and fishing pressure - and Mary Cod have been stocked into it since about the late 80's I think (don't quote me) - although not the local gene pool - genetic studies have found all the 'eastern cod' from the Clarence to Richmond, to Logan / Coomera, to Brisbane and Mary Rivers are all part of one species complex (with some local gene pool distinctions) that represent Murray Cod coming over the Great Dividing Range about ~2 million years ago (based on DNA seperation) - so its quite legitimate in the absence of native Coomera cod to use nearest cuzzie bros - Mary River cod to get the apical predator of this system established again - and they're far from an 'introduced species' - regards Jim

As Jim states, the Mary River cod has been stocked as part of the Mary River Cod research and recovery plan.

It is great work that these groups are doing.Bass are a natural in Coomera as far as I know. I have seen them and caught them in there as far up as Canungra.

I don't think they are that uncommon to the area. Speaking to a mate who regularly ventures up the coomera, tells me he does land them from time to time.
