    Mud Island

    HI All,

Despite pretty ordinary conditions we couldn't resist a fish so hit the eastern side of Mud Island this morning and were surprised to find the water was much cleaner with some green in it. Fished the shallow reef just inside the East Cardinal Mark in 16ft of water.

Managed 2 Grassy Sweetlip (keepers) 3 undersize squire, shovelnose Ray, Porcupine fish and a sole! Threw a few baits at the rocks at the river mouth to produce 2 choppers and a small bream. Back at the ramp by 1300 best bites were at the bottom of the tide.

    Cheers Richo

The creeks were really muddy and full of fresh. Just a bit of practice with the bait caster was all i got today. Must have been windy out there today.

Yep the river was very dirty and fresh, some submerged obstructions so low speeds are the go. Outside the river this morning was okay, went out through the boat passage and the trip to Mud was good averaging about 15knots. The way home was bumpy to the mouth, but was not heading straight into the chop so a slow but corfmfortable ride was had. Have the next 3 days off due to the Council stopping the Ferries but don't think I'll bother fishing the next few days unless the wind drops right off to head out wide of the fresh!

I was thinking of heading out tomorrow myself but the fishing reports don't look that promising and not sure what the weather is planing. Seen much surface action with mack or long tail tuna.

    Hey Al,
Didn't even get the boat wet - spent the day doing maintenance - installed a new rule live bait/deck flush set up. Will wait till tomorrow now; forecast of light NE winds so a trip out to the beacons or south passage seems the plan.
It is Schoolies week so might have some luck at the beacons.

Caught 3 squire 36 - 40cm, 3 grassie Sweetlip 32-35cm and a monster catfish. Caught heaps of undersize squire, moses perch, sweetlip. Was berlying heaps when the legal fish were caught.

Ps What is the legal size for moses perch?
