Distress flare, last night

Last night while watching the storm on our back verandah, I saw a red distrees flare,
We have sweeping views to the gateway bridge so it was between it and the city so guessed it was on the Brisbane river.
Even though I was no where near it I did the right thing and rang the coppers to report it.
They said a few people had already rang regarding it.

It was a red parachute flare.!
Did anyone hear anything about it ?
Did some yachty parked on the river get zapped by the lightning ?
