Yes install firefox then install the free add on called download helper, works a treat.

Youtube vids are in Flash Player format, known as FLV and the movie file ends in .flv extension. You will need an FLV player to play them once you have downloaded them. Just google FLV Player, there are plenty of free ones available for download.

As per Dave: consider GOM player, none of the quiet nasties or lack of privacy with this one, it's a bit like what the net could have been.
