Raymarine DS500 help
I am considering a Raymarine DS500X. I would like the Furuno 620 but cant justify the additional expenditure at present. The price I have got for a new (old stock) DS500X is under $600, i have not seen one or demo'ed one. I looked at the Lowrance X515 and while it is good after trying the furuno and the clarity the digital sounder offers I don’t think I would be satisfied with the lowrance.
Fishing will be estuary and close offshore.
I am aware of the fogging issue with the Raymarine, other than that is there any other issues?
Rgds

Re: Raymarine DS500 help
I have the DS 600X, and it has never fogged up.
A common theme seems to be that if the wires are not kept clean from salt water, the pins / connections can go bung, but that probably applies to a lot of offshore electronics

Re: Raymarine DS500 help
G'day Jim,
I have a ds500x, its a cracker, no problems, not even the fog up others speak about.. Only negative in its entire operation imo is the pop down menus control for range and gain, but for the few times I want to zone, in, its really not an issue. I find it shows everything I need in the auto fish mode
You'll enjoy it
Cheers

Re: Raymarine DS500 help
Hi,
I have a DS500X too.
I bought it from Fishon in the sates and did have a problem with fogging and the On/Off button sticking in. Contacted Fishon and they gave me the contact for Raymarine in Sydney. Rang them, they said send it down as the knew of the foggin issue. Had it back repaired 7 day later......no charge and extended the warrenty by another 3 months.
Cant fault it otherwise.
Cheers
