    juvenile mangrove jacks

    can anyone tell does juvenile jack has a black spot on the back of its body like a finger mark does?

    i think you'll find it's a moses perch. jacks are red all the way.

    nope, they generally have light vertical stripes though like the below pic.

    cause caught one last night, didn't know what fish it is. it is a reddish colour with sharp teeth.

    Something like this little fella? only a little more reddish?

    This is a moses perch, same family as a jack, Lutjanus.

    yes Simon looks like it but little more red. Thanks I didn't catch it my mate caught it. He did say it pull like a big fish but only about 20cm.

    Was it just the one? If I catch one I often get a few more. Good fun on light gear and on the table too!

    Here is a coupla shots of some 20-30cm Juvenile's. Great fun to catch on light gear....hope this helps.
