    30 ft longboat

    well here goes

a few guys have asked to see the "new" 30ft longboat and how much it is going to cost including travel and fuel
so I will start hull as scored for $4,500 picked up from Lowood
I scored a great T top and canopy set for $600 and the motor $13,600 2006 honda 225Vtec came up from Melbourne on the weekend (thanks to Spaniard King for some help with checks)
17hr round trip to Townsville to get the trailer $3000
bottom of hull 25ltr flowcoat, 20ltr acetone $200
sides two pack and primer $300
20m of aged blue gum trim timber $100

it has been rolled over and preped for the flowcoat to go on this weekend

I'll put up the new pics as the refurb continues

    Cheers

    Thanks for the update SL.
    Interesting project!
What engy's did the original owner have on it?
Looks as though there isn't much room under the floor (due to little deadrise and low freeboard) so are they the fuel tanks either side of the console? If they are, I guess you will have to come up with some system of evenly draining the 2 (to keep weight distrubution acceptable).
There is a similar rig here in Cairns, I think its called Cotton Reel or something. We some past him in a 20 knot beam-on sea, we were banging a bit, but he looked to be traveling along fine (mind you he would of been doing 20 knots max, when we were doing about 25-30). Maybe someone else inon here knows of the boat and has some more to tell.

Thumbs up Re: 30 ft longboat

    Thanks Chop and JT

it had twin 150 4st yamahas when it was a fuel boat for the islands north of New Guinea it carries 2000ltrs fuel and upto 6 44s and still planed easily so we figure the 225 with the amount of gear we use should do it very easy

Those 1000ltr tanks will be reduced to 200ltr each so that leaves me 2 x 3m rod lockers and 4 draw tackle boxes
the fuel system comes through two taps and filters down the back so I can put a three way fuelcock that will let the 2 tanks keep each other level through the filters and water separaters

If I am not fishing for a week or so I always put the rest of the fuel in the car and always start the day with fresh fuel so I am not concerned about any cross contamination

should be on the water for Christmas fingers crossed
alright JT there is a spot for you anytime and I owe Jase a trip

Crikey jack with a boat that long you have to start out a few minutes early every time you go out so you have time to wait for the back to arrive.

You could have different GPS marks for the front and back of the boat

    cheers

Looks like an excellent project. How old is the hull? and did they foam fill it in PNG? I couldn't see any scuppers, I am taking it is self draining though? I have a similar 25fter and am very impressed with it. This hull should be a real weapon offshore. I would be interested in updates for sure.

    It looks a beauty,Scott...

I didn't really get a good perspective on the size till I saw the second photo where the guys are working on it...

Are you planning any shelter on board or just a centre console and top..?

Looking forward to seeing your new baby come together??...But what happens in the meantime ?? No fishing for you??

    HI disorderly

I am lucky the local creek is working okay and I can pick up a feed on the way home from work (prawns today) and besides with a one track mind like mine I have no choice but to finish the boat before I get the urge for another project

as for cover, the t top I bought has side screens that fit the boat as though it was custom made and one of my bosses mates owns Swains canvas in Rocky and he is sponsoring me with front covers and clears, top bloke
as is I think it won't be as wet as the old boat

    Cheers

Yeh I recon you should be able to build a small block of flats or at lest a decent sized bungalow somewhere a midships and still have plenty of fishing room front and back .

That thing would have to look impressive on the plane over a bit of chop.

    cheers

    Re: 30 ft longboat

Well the bloody rain every weekend has slowed the progress so I just finished flowcoating the bottom a couple of days ago
rolled it back over today here are a few pics of a bush roll system including duct tape
while waiting for clear weather I bought all the electronics, safety gear and lighting (everything led)
the console and T top go in this week and my chippy mate starts the gunwale timbers motor is booked to go on next weekend

    Cheers
