    G'day Nuggstar,

One of my all time favorite rods is a blank I made up about 30 years ago. Its a Fenwick Woodstream SP842 that I built up as a mudeye casting rod for use with 4 - 6 lb line. It is still one of my favorite rods of choice and holds many memories of past battles with oversize rainbow trout and chinook salmon, and more recently some testing battles with trevally. I've never spared it or mothered it and it's stood up so well after all these years.
This blank was about the 4th or 5th rod I'd ever built and having bought the Dale Clemens "Advanced Custom Rod Building" book I was ready to to have a go at something special. Being full of youthful self confidence, I thought I'd have a go at doing a "snakeskin" decorative pattern. To this day I still find myself smiling as I look at my handiwork during a quiet moment between fishes.

Yes, I was (still am) a real perv on the Fenwicks and the original american Sabre blanks. I made up heaps of rods mainly freshwater spinning, land based game and saltwater game. I got lazy about 10 years ago and started buying my rods but with the recent move north and my new found enthusiasm to go fishing more regularly I have to say that I'm itching once more to roll my own. I've got a stash of old Fenwick baitcaster blanks and light Sabre blanks that I'll start on soon that I think will ideally be suited to this part of the coast. Cheers.

Lots of pics from Ausfishers on rodbuilding.org

pics below are one of my favs, only because the rod blank was thin and it took so long to do and I basically got it right.

    synder blank 2-3kg.

It ended up with wood butt and cork foregrip.

    Why thanks matey
That definitely was a one off hey Phil

    Here's a couple of mine.
The first two are of a little Snyder Glas rod I made for the cook.
The 3rd and 4th are of a rod I made for an experiment for the rod strength and for strength in the timber joins.
It is a el cheapo Mudhole blank I made up to try and break. My nephews in Darwin tend to break a few so they were wanting replacements all the time.
I was surprised with this one as it did not break. I loaded it up that much the join in the timber cracked in the foregrip.
They're fairly popular in the north now. And it's still not broken
The 5th is a rebuild of an original Ugly for Deathship I did last year.
It was a copy of the original.
the 6th is of a wooden butt I made to suit myself and the last is a wrap I did on one of my outside rods (no epoxy on her there). It's a PURC 60 MH blank with a spiral wrap on it as well.
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

Well Greg, in the end the " pizza wrap " stayed on the rod. I tried to ' tidy ' it up a bit.
