Fraser at Christmas
Hi,
We are heading up to Fraser at Christmas time from Newcastle and was after some local knowledge.
Is this a good time of the year to fish the beach up there and if so what should I be targeting?
What should I do regarding bait? Buy it up there, is it available on the island? I can not catch worms to save my life!
Thanks

Re: Fraser at Christmas
You can catch fish all year round at Fraser but the weather is a little less predictable in summer so you could find the beach unfishable due to wind or swell. If it is fishable then dart and whiting would be the bread and butter fish. You should be able to find pippies although they can sometimes be scarce. If you don't know how to find them, ask a local on the beach. Worms are a good alternativeif you can catch them. I'm sure someone on the island would sell a few to you!! (Can usually get some at Rainbow Beach on the way over - probably only last a couple of days though)

Mate if the main beach is unfishable due to wind then go across the island to moon point and chase whiting, flathead and bream on the sandflats

Re: Fraser at Christmas
the bread and butter species are all around during this time, and great fun to catch.
however i strongly suggest you dont go to the western side of teh island unless there is a good breeze blowing. becuase the insects are intolerable. its a sandfly city. but its a great island. as said before, yes weather is very unpredictable, so prepare for the worst.
