Thread: Need Help - Stradic/Saragosa/TwinPower

    Question Need Help - Stradic/Saragosa/TwinPower

I am looking for a good reel to use high speed spinning/jigging for Spanish Mackerel and the like. And will also popper etc for GT's. Looking at running 30lb braid. My choice is between the Stradic 8000FI, Saragosa 8000F and TwinPower6000FC. Price between the three is not a consideration. But ability go withstand big fish and drag pressure is the main concern.

On paper the Stradic8000 is the clear winner. 107cm Retrieve Per Crank, Larger line capacity and 13kg Max Drag. But I am concerned it may not be build as 'tough' as the Saragosa. But the Saragosa is a little slower at 91cm per crank. The twinpower looks good, but does not have the Max Drag stated. And it lacks the big power grip on the handle.

I would really like some opinions here!!!

    TIA...

Bugga, I was kinda looking for people to lean away from the Stradic!! I know it look good on paper. But I currently own a Stradic 4000, and it just doesn't seem to have the 'guts' to it. But then it is the older white model. But they would want to have improved on it significatly?

Sorry, rod with either be the Tcurve Lucanus Jig rod, OR the new Tcurve Bluewater spin in the 10-15kg size. Leaning to the Lucanus.

Malcolm, don't forget the 'old' Stradics were top of the class in their day with many still doing the job quite well, the new models are a big step up with the Paladin Gear Durability Enhancement and the Propulsion Line Management System. I have had a Saragosa 18000 for my medium type jigging [reefies/10-20kg Palagics] and am very impressed with it, but for your use I would have no hesitation with going for the Stradic 8000.

my mate has just bought the saragossa 18000 with the t curve 10-15kg and he is in love with it. Plenty of grunt for the rod and so far the reel is awesome on the big kingies.

I'm still undecided. Leaning toward the TwinPower 6000. Wish I had the money to go straight to a Stella SW. That would solve all my problems.

Does anyone know if the TwinPower had the Paladin Gears? The catalog does not say!

Gday mate, if looking at the Twin Power look at the 10000FC.

Read through this thread and i'm sure you will be convinced.

Perfect for what you want allthough priced a bit higher than the Saragosa. If i had the money i would fork it out and get this.

    Cheers

Malclom, the new Twin Powers have Paladin Gears, seems all the new model Shimano reels do except the Spheros, 'hey' but that is why we have the Saragosa .
I recon the Twin power for spinning and the Saragosa for jigging

saragosa by far very very tough reel with good strong drag, nice big power knob handle for really crankin the reel when hooked onto a monster or ripping a jig.
    also built like a tank!

    Re: Need Help - Stradic/Saragosa/TwinPower

Thanks guys. I think the 10000 is just a bit too big. 8000 would be the biggest I would go. I don't like the feel of heavy gear in my hands all day. The TP6000 will hold amply 30lb braid.

I am really liking the new Lucanus spin rod. Any opinions on that one??

    Re: Need Help - Stradic/Saragosa/TwinPower

I have a T-Curve Kingmac 8-12 with a TwinPower 6000, only use it for throwing slugs or poppers at tuna & smaller GT's but it has more than enough drag for the 30lb mono I use and a great feel, even though I prefer overheads for just about everything else.

    Stubbie!

    Re: Need Help - Stradic/Saragosa/TwinPower

    Hi Guys,

From what I know the Twinpowers actually don't have the Paladin gearing. The twinpowers are made for the European market not the US market hence the difference. I spoke with Shimano and their website has been updated.

    Cheers,
    Janelle

    Re: Need Help - Stradic/Saragosa/TwinPower

Janelle, thanks for the info. It would be a real shame for such a real NOT to have the Paladin Gearing. In what way has Shimano updated their site? I still don't see any Max Drag, Reel Weight or 10000 for the TP?
