    Pathfinder Jack

I recently bought an 01 Pathfinder, great car couldnt be happier, however I did forget to check if it had a jack and while it does have a really good spare, thats pretty useless if I dont have a jack to lift the vehicle up with to change it. Does anyone know what sort of jack would be best to buy, I was looking at bottle jacks however they only have a small flat surface area to lift with. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look under the rear seat mate, they lift up, towards the drivers seat, there is a space in there for the jack and it isn't very much different from the type you would get with your standard commodore etc. If you get one like that it will fit in the space provided. Others may not.

There should also be a tool bar thing to insert into the winch device to lower the spare wheel down..

    G'day,

I only use hydralic jacks. My wife was horrified when I gave her one for the Peugeot 206! I told her the RACQ would be grateful when she called them to her first flat. They were.

On a 4x4 a hydraulic jack should be placed close to the hub under the centre of the axle tube. This will compress the spring and get the wheel off the ground with the least effort. If the vehicle has independent suspension lift as close to the wheel as possible under something substantial that will compress the spring.

In off road conditions this may not work and a high-lift jack is the only solution.

Above all, read your owner's handbook about jacking, especially on uneven ground, and carry or improvise wheel chocks whre needed.

Wouldn't the RACQ guys have their own jacks?
