Glenlyon Dam Camping Vs Cania Gorge Tourist Park

I was at Glenlyon last Chrissie with my wife and 2 teens we thoroughly enjoyed the park and the fishing great place to get away from the crowds.

This year we are tossing up between heading back to Glenlyon or venturing out to Cania Gorge and staying at the Big 4 Park for the first time for a break and hopefully some good fishing.

Has anyone been there that offer us some advise etc on what the camp grounds are like and of course the dam for fishing and kayaking and whether there is much to see and do as far as bush walking and scenery etc. i was wondering whether it would be too hot to visit in summer ?.

Any advise would be really apprecated guys and gals.

mate go to cania great campgrounds plenty of bush walks and great fishing

At Cania do the run to both the old Monel gold mine area and the Krombit tops bomber crash site. both worth the 4x4 drive

mate i go to glenlyon every christmas wouldnt go anywhere else good people everywhere plenty to see and do

Both locations are worth the run. You could spend two weeks in both locations and still have lots more to do there.

Personally Sundown National Park would be my venue as it is close to Glenlyon and has a nive section of Pike creek flowing to the dam. Nice leafy camping areas and shaded parts of the creek to avoid the summertime heat.

Cania does suffer from heat a bit more than Glenlyon normally does but both will take several 40c+ days each summer.

Reel, both spots are great, I have spent time camping fishing & 4wdriving around both areas. Bearing in mind Cania is only at 5% capacity, the fishing options at Glenlyon might be better. If you go back to Glenlyon make sure you explore the Mole river valley, you can follow it all the way back towards Tenterfield & there are some excellant spots for reclining in a cool gurgling pool having a cold beer & wondering what the poor people do for Christmas. Having said that the facilities, birdlife & wine tasting at Cania Big4 are also a memory that will live a long time.
So many good spots & not enough time off, good luck with the decision.

Ill be staying at my in-laws from 23rd to 26th Dec, only 20kms from Glenlyon and hoping to catch my first freshwater fish there.

4.2m tinny with Ausfish stickers, 40hp Etec and being towed by a Toyota Hilux dual cab with Blue canopy.
