Went to work and caught fish
worked again yesterday as a disability suport worker and took my wheelchair-bound client for a fish off the Rockpool jetty.
Collected some mudherring to use as whole and strip baits but decided to change to peeled prawn after 1.5 hours as nothing was happening.
Shortly after that my man was busy and the wheelchair work-out began. He pulled in a fairly large butter bream and a smile ensued. The fish score was now 3 to him and 2 to me. Just before pack-up my bait got taken into the rocks. I put the rod down for a minute and then checked later to see if he wanted to come out. He did not but I got him out eventually and landed a Morwong/slatey bream/blubber-lip of around 45cm.
Happy to go home with 3 all score.
All in all a good day at work
happy fishing

Re: Went to work and caught fish
Onya Kev and great feeling giving someone with a disability a day catching fish. They always enjoy it and appreciate it a lot more than able bodied people do.
I wonder if anyone has ever organised a M & G fishing day for disabled people around Brisbane or the coasts? Even a tournament where all non boaters are disabled? It would be a great day out for those involved and be a wonderful introduction for many others out there that may need some inspiration.
Jack.

Re: Went to work and caught fish
PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES DO IT TOUGH AND BECAUSE i HAVE NEVER YET SEEN ANYONE NOT SMILE AFTER CATCHING A FISH.............I FIGURE THAT TAKING THEM FISHING IS A GOOD START AND IF THEY CATCH SOMETHING...................THE BODY LANGUAGE SAYS IT ALL.
This is a great 2nd job I do occassionally. My main job is working in a Correctional Centre and fishing is great way to balance what life throws at us.

It's always good to see someone helping out someone less fortunate then them, and if you get paid, then thats even better!
Keep up the good work.

I had a look and thought that there is just too much boat traffic. I might try it on my own one day

Great post mate.
Guess I don't need to go into the obvious good things you are doing. But being paid and fishing whilst doing them is icing on the cake.
Was a good read.
