What an awesome night! Slept right through the Melbourne Cup the next day. That's a first for me.

The two "little" fingermark each went 2kg cleaned. Nice fish in their own right, but dwarfed by what came later.

Mozza neglects to mention that I outfished him at least 2 to 1 all night, albeit with undersize nannies, cod, grunter and XOS catfish.

That last hour before dawn was surreal. Mozza was going absolutely spastic down the back of the boat after his second big fingermark hit the deck. At that point, I was quietly hoping I could get just one for myself. When that wish was fulfilled only minutes later, I could have hugged him. Seriously, if I thought I could have climbed over the esky, tackle bags, landing net, squid net and other assorted paraphenalia without breaking my neck, I would have. Then I got another one on the very next bait... DING! My elevator had arrived at cloud nine and I stepped out to join my mate Mozza.

When my third successive bait (and the last live squid we had) got hammered, Mozza's grin quickly changed to a look of disbelief. He was again staring down the barrel of being out-fished by the deckie. Poor bugger. Don't think I didn't notice the relief in his voice when we realised it was another bloody big cattie. He thought that was hilarious, he did. My arms were just about ready to drop off, but I was getting no sympathy from the captain. Pulling the anchor that last time was hard work, I kid you not.

Can't wait to do it all again.

Still good fishing there guys. You might want to buy Mozza a float ball system for Xmas, makes bringing up the anchor so much more easy.

My deckies have it too easy, might get them to do a manual haul up one day, just to appreciate the big orange ball....

I can't wait for the next phase when the squid should be around in good numbers and the fingers are amongst them also

Congrats on the fingers. I like the cape area for a night fish to, had some good fun out there. I saw you guys heading out on monday night i was just leaving the ramp(catching bream) as you guys launched i wondered how you went. Last time i went out chasing fingers i lost the biggest i have ever seen and i worked on boats through the Kimberleys. gonna head back and try to get him in the boat if he hasnt already been removed.
