    10-15kg spin rod

Does anyone know of a 10-15kg spin rod that is sub 150? It will be mainly used for very heavy soft plastic work and some bottom bashing etc. for red emperor etc. It will also be going on a plane so it can't be any longer that 2m, or 2 piece.

I will also be matching it up with a penn applause 6000 sized reel and will be running 30lb braid over it. Would the applause handle the job?

So you are wanting 2piece? my suggestion is a rod around the 7' (2.1m) mark but more around the 10kg range for that reel(30lb would be it's limits i'd say), unless your wanting to upgrade that. I've got a Ugly Stik that has taken a beating over the years and the range now should have a rod that will suit your needs around your budget or something in the Wilson Live Fibre range. JMO

    G'day Jared,

The penn applause has plenty of balls Jared - bang for buck the 6000 is up there and would do the job in the applications you are talking about - the truth is any SP outfit is gonna be challenged with a Red over 12kg on 15kg line but that's another story - for that reason another option to consider that may give you a little more in the drag area is the Pann 560 slammer - a perfect reel for 15kg and you can even up the ante and run 24kg on it, they are a really tough reel, have heaps in the drag area - which is the issue for larger species you'll encounter if your chasing Red fish. The slammer would outperform most others in that class for the dollar.

The rod I'dconsider matching it with is the Starlo Styx Snapper heavy, its rated at 6-10 kg, but it a brute of a thing and you can pick them up for a little over $100.00. i have one and have that exact outfit, the slammer matched with the starlo styx squidgy heavy.

The other rods worth considering is a Dropshot in that 8-10 kgish area and I was very impresses with the heavier ATC by Wilson in 8ish kg. They all come in in that $120-150 range and could all do the job nicely. They are each 1 piece high modulous graphite, you'd need a rod tube - but they aren't too expensive, I do prefer 1 piece but to each their own.

I'm not sure where your're based, but if around Brisbane, North side have a chat to Ant at Crew Marine, he'll give you the run down, if south side down Manly way, I've found Toni at WaterTower very helpful and always looked after me on price, the Lads at Coorparoo tackle world know their stuff and have an excellent range, Down Viccy Point way Duncan at Fish Head is always worth a yarn. Fish Head deal with the higer end, Duncan has a really excellent grasp on what is what too and would be worth a chat.

    Cheers

Rhys I live at Scarborough and often go down to crew marine, nice blokes and are often up for a chat. Is that reel sale still on? Barracat I think kawana would be just a bit too far to travel, I am only a student so transport is limited, but if I find out a way to get up there I will have a look.

Look around for the run-out Pflueger Presidents ( rated to 10kgs .... but can pull stumps) very nice blank with great components (incl fuji Sic guides & reel seat + nice cork ) ....... you can pick them up for as low as $100 ...... worth double that
I'm using mine for barra ..... but they would make a perfect plastic snapper rod
