LIve to Fish

mik01, I think some have treated you harshly.
As this is what forums are all about, asking questions, answering questions, general chit chat etc.
All you asked was a simple question to clarify a particular species, and all you got in return was egg in the face. Well the joke will be on them when they ask a question! But they already know everything don't they?
I would rather see you asking ANY question here or anywhere, than having to see someone plead guilty in court and face major fines etc for a mistaken identity.
There are a few cheap little books which are handy to have when fishing for a quick reference to species ID, size and bag limits, to reduce the chance of getting busted with the wrong fish etc.
You can also find the info for free on the net at DPI&F website or similar sites.
Most fishing websites will have the info or a link to the right places, without the humiliation.
Whiting and Tailor are very different fish, but I am so glad you asked the question to resolve any dispute between you and your friend.
There is no harm in asking a question, so keep safe and keep asking.
Cheers.

I know, I know, we should not assume that everybody is Ern Grant I suppose, but they are two totaly different and very common Fish, I would say that almost any Fisherman (even the newest newbie) would have seen either species a few times at least.
It's all good, no harm done, (I hope), we are all one happy group and help out when needed.
But I seem to have a question for the modder's or tech team,
Why did my post come up twice?
Probably something I did at my end, but I just want to make sure so I don't make any habit of the same mistake.
Thanks team
Welcome to Ausfish Madaddy. Its good to have another voice of reason here. We all have to start somewhere, and asking questions is the best way of learning. I too (with over 30 years experience in fishing both at bread and butter and tournaments, in waters between coffs harbour and Melbourne) struggled with identification of some regularly caught species when i moved to Queensland......I had never caught a Grunter, moses perch, grinner, thready, pearly, fingermark....all species which experienced Qld fishos would have been catching regularly, so I had to ask someone what they were.
If anyone is unsure of what they have caught, please take a pic and ask the question....(it would be much better if you didnt gill and gut it first....like mad says..it could cost you a lot of money...or make you very ill).
