There is a croc down this way, I might ring up the EPA to see if it might be of the non aggressive variety, never patted a croc on the scon before...anyone else got a local croc to ring them about..

Theres been many articles on this croc recently and i have to say that the Townsville Bulletin should start up a circus beacause that all they have created out of this story.

Daniel Bateman, the lead clown in this circus, has been writing in previous articles that the 3.5m Maneater is lurking around Maggie Island only looking for humans to eat. What a knob. Meanwhile other crocs swim up and down the cape doing the same thing.

It makes me wonder why they dont bother asking someone who might know something about croc behavior or movements. Theres been many studes that relocated crocs often return to thre original feeding ground. Even over several hundered kilometers in days.

Makes me laugh how crap gets on the front page too.

because of the epa skrew up, does that mean us tax payers hav to pay back the businesses that lost money because of the croc, eg dieve companies.(if they can prove that it was the crocs fault).it probably does

What gets me is all the focus is on this one 12ft croc, its the only thing they are worried about that is 'scaring' away all their business.

Yet, Maggie is absolutely littered with big tiger sharks, i've seen them as long as my boat (16ft) and hooked many smaller specimens to about 10ft, but I spose the old saying goes "outta sight, outta mind". The waters between Rattlesnake Island and Maggie Island are the largest known breeding ground for tigers in the world, yet nobody says boo about them.

Everyone is saying its unusual for their to be a croc on maggie, yet the mouth of the Bohle river is 10km away, and it has plenty of big ones residing in their. The front of the island is mangrove lined with its own saltwater estuary, which people can and do catch barra and mudcrabs there, so if its possible for a barra to be on maggie, why is it so hard to believe that there is a croc there?

There have been documented cases of crocodiles swimming between PNG and Cape york, but for some reason people believe that 10km is too far for them to swim in townsville?? Must be some lazy friggin crocs we breed here.

I remember watching a Steve Irwin doco once about the reefs off lizard Island, they were 50km from lizard Island and what did they see all that way out? A Crocodile all of about 15ft long.

I think its time for people to take their heads out of the sand and realise that crocodiles DO live in water and a 10km WATER barrier between Townsville and Maggie Island isn't going to stop them from paying a visit and deciding to settle their.

I mean for god sakes people, we live in North Queensland and if your shocked by seeing a crocodile 8km from the mainland you've got to be either pretty damn naive or just plain stupid.

Yes the EPA might have moved this one, but what's stopping any others from calling the place home? Nothing, thats what.

Yeah you are right the media frenzy and unabashed twitiness of the average person toward their environment.

The EPA dislocated a mature individual that has a piece of magnetite in it's head to a region adjacent a major regional centre and somehow thought they would fly it like every thing else under the radar for a study that has no purpose but bragging rights due to the well understood and documented homing behaviour of these critters.

Gotta be good to see these EPA thugs getting a little taste of reverse ideology through the media

I was speaking to my sister in t'ville last week....some people have known about this one for quite some time.

Yeh I note that at first the government was playing dumb on the matter and treating as if it "just happened to move in by its self"..... which it sort of did.

aparantly it has been commuting between the bohle rever and magy island every now and then and the rangers have known about this for ages.

I think the " valuable information" that the EPA have gained is that a crock don't stay put in the creek where you left it.

When I was up there in May last.... I mentioned that we were going to have a wander arround cape cleveland....... I was warned by the relatives that crocks has been seen at shelly beach ( once known as a nudist beach) and to be carefull......

so it occurs to me that the EPA thaught they could plant a crock up there somewhere and it would stay put.......I don't recon they bargined on it holidaying over at maggy or comming arround the cape to palaranda.

krikey it isn't rocket science...... as my brother would say you could paddle to maggy on you lie-low on a calm day.... so why wouldn't a crock new to town go over for a look...... there is good fishin and clean water over there....

If you had a choice where would you live..... in the bohle or on a nice beach at maggy where the water is nice and the fishing is great
