Re: More barra (hervey bay report)

Its all good mate..... Have you thought about if they are easy to access premoting catch a barra to the elderly or kids to introduce them to barra as a catch and release type thing for the hervey bay area? I know they do things like that in local dams in other places around Australia

    Just a thought

na mate have tryed to get one of my mates son into one he is like 3 or 4 years old but i hooked one and asoon as he took one wind which was a bit of a struggle as i did have the reel locked up aswell the barra jumped and lure came back at us except for that i have only got one when he has been with me.
They arn't that easy but ill let him catch his first next time im there and i hook up for sure.
It would be good if they started something like that is the bay but i like keep all the lakes and dams quiet cause there is quite a few meat fisho's which i have no problem with but there is no group to stock the lakes regually and i would like to keep catching them

might see a few more barra soon if im lucky
    cheers bK

its all good mate keep up the good reports point made and over so now it would be nice to see a few more scenery shot so we can understand the types of structure your choosing and how nice these spots are i are not lucky enough to have these sort of locations right bye me and always have a hell 3 hour drive to get to them so maybe im jealous a little

    Hey Barrakid,
Good to see your your getting some barra action in the Hervey Bay region.
I would not be suprised if some of your spots are holding stocks of wild fish.
I used to live in Maryborough (15 years ago) and had a couple of fresh water spots like that myself. Both of my spots had drainage that would flow to creek systems in times flood or on the highest of king tides. I believe that there are a lot more wild barra in the river systems (Mary and Burrum) and the Sandy Straights than people realise.
Don't be upset by what other people think about the spots you have been fishing, chances are you have found some very special locations which should be held very closely to your chest.
Good to see your getting the fish off the surface, nothing like watching your lure get nailed right before your eyes. Enjoy your spots you have found.

BK you should quit this thread now.

It sounds like what you have is a good thing that only a few people know about. But with all the back and forth conversation so far you are giving away a lot of hints on how to find these lakes and the general area you are in. This thread has peaked my interest and I'll be looking through google earth. So I imagine there are a bunch of other people doing the same.

To give you an example. There is a lagoon in the Bundaberg area that was one of those "so obvious, no one ever noticed" things. It was tidal, but cut off and all the fish caught in there grew much larger than you might usually find. Think 90cm GT's, Flathead pushing a metre and even a rouge school of big Barracuda. One guy in the know showed a "friend" who told any one who would listen about it and before you know it, every high tide there were ten people fishing it into oblivion.

Stop the flow of information. Keen anglers like yourself might find out but they aren't the people you need to worry about.

    bk.
thanks again Keep at em its a great sport wherever you can get at one..

good to hear you return them..to get bigger for next time.

Just a word of advise from some old fart whos seen, read and hears a fair bit.......Youll learn a lot more by reading/listening what others say thinking about it and then makin up your own mind what you think is right or usefull and let the rest float over to wherever allowing them to have their say without saying they dont know anything and you do
Nothing wrong with disagreeing and having your say , that is what its all about.... just dont forget others may not agree with you.
    Everyone has their own idea..
Keep up the posts its good to read what others are doin.

    Cheers
    Jim

    Re: More barra

I think a couple of do gooders tried to stop folk fishing the place your thinking of. Had a disagreement with one bloke who was mistakenly under the impression I was using a bomber to catch birds?! Got the feeling some local didnt want other locals fishing "his" spot. I think Bk may have had the same botherers pester him too. Some people have nothing better to do I guess
