for the price of a few bucks 9 times out of 10 if caught on the road the outer housing will support the new inner race to get you home where you can put in a complete new set. i have seen trailers come in with no inner race cage left and they still managed a 100 ks on them . its not uncommon for poor quality hubs sold with a ring of locite round the outer race to hide poor workmanship caused by a slightly worn tungsten chip on a automatic lathe best bet is to heat them than cool them by squirting around the tapered face quickly and usually with a light tap they fall out. its the same principle as the ring of weld, the cooling contracts the ring in.

I'd imagine that's why you're having the trouble with the removals because if it takes more than a screwdriver and hammer you've got issues.
precisely... its too tight if it is extremely hard to get out

i changed out a set of my mates on the side of the road in a freezing rain, with darkness falling.
he had no tools in in his rig- had to take 3 or 4 trips to the auto parts store to buy what we needed.
i heated the iner race with a bernzomatic torch to get it off.
it worked- after a couple hours of pounding and cussing.
back on the road, i asked him when was the last time he greased them.
"well, never, i guess. they're only a couple years old"

    i could've shot him.

Do the bearings on a regular basis ( twice a year) & cones yearly( use grease) ....... makes the job easier ........ yes its a pain - i knock the cones out with a screw driver ( probably 120 Deg each hit) & put them in with a block of hard wood & hammer ( keep it even) ......... once level with lip of hub I tap it in with a brass drift & hammer

    This seems to work

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

Mate, that's a shocker! It's just this scenario that keeps me looking after them to the best of my ability - they are far from choosy in the predicament they will leave you in

    cheers fnq
