    Can a Suzuki 70 be converted into a 90

    Hi guys,

A technical question for anyone, can a Suzuki 70 be converted into a 90?

Has anyone done it and any idea of the cost, and/or parts required.

    Cheers Gazumped

I would be thinking that if you popped down to your Local Suzuki dealer and handed over a few grand, he could organise a 90HP "conversion" for you very easily.

Hahah...and I'm thinking the haines/Suzuki marketing manager has just had a heart attack....not likely. But I bet its just a chip swap anyway...? same for the 80hp..all the same new engine.

i know my merc 40hp is a restricted 50hp made possible with a restrictor plate.

maybe yours can be an easy fix. is it out of warrenty?

These days it depends on what 'spoilers' the manufacturer chose to include in design to foil the idea.

In theory it could be as little as new larger hp 'computer' getting fitted, still there might be a new line of larger capacity injectors, throttle body (If it has one) induction diameter or even but I suspect not anymore these days a different muffler in the midsection.

A slow and methodical cruise through the parts list for each HP would find the answer.

          cheers fnq

I think before anyone does a HP "jump" they had better do some very thorough research, this sort of thing comes up every couple of weeks, just because an Engine "shares" a common (sometimes) block it is not always the same, ports can and do vary to make for more hp, as do all sorts of other things from Carbies (not just a jet either) to complete exhause systems, (not a restrictor) heads, pistons all sorts of things can be and are often different, just because a couple of Motors share a common capacity, and look identical does not make it so, been there and done that trying to sort out (especially) 90 to 115 OMC "conversions" it can be a nightmare, now that said, some Engines can be upped if you know exactly what you are doing, but most are way too expensive to worry about, buy the one you want first up,or trade and get the one you want!

What Jimbo says...... It's a completley different engine

The new 70,80 and 90 are the same engine but it would be near impossible to do cause they don't want you to do it.

Only if it was that easy

Of course..they arent stupid. How could they earn $750 (or whatever) more for a 90 if you could step up an 80 in your workshop for less...or at all.

I dont know much about the new suzys but i have a 05 suzy and its alot smaller physicaly than the older 90.You might be able to make them into a bigger hp by changing the computer mapping but its not much more to buy the right one first.
In the old days you could get a 115 omc and make it a 140 by changing a few things as noel said.
