    First Timer Barra

I took a friend from work, Josh, up to the dam to see if I could get him onto his first barra last Saturday. We were greeted by less than ordinary weather with wind, rain, oh, and did I say wind???
We went for a cruise up one of the Arms and dropped along anchor rope out. I began by using a Gold Boney Bream and Josh opted for a Storm Soft Plastic slow rolled
It was not long before Josh called for being on. I must admit that Josh later said he thought he hooked a snag at first till this little tacker made a leap and realised what he had. After the mandatory photo and congratulations the fish went back in after reading 56cm on the brag mat. Not the start I was hoping for him, but needless to say, he was of the mark finally. Now it was time to try and get him the 56’s big sister
I was twitching my BB and was hit by a freight train that spat the lure as it hit. I was feeling surprised at this quick succession of hits so became quite focused. Unfortunately though we flogged the water to foam, but the wind picked right up and changed direction, making us cool right down rather quickly.
Decision was made to move and have a little search around. I found some calm water after trying a few windy areas, and was greeted by immediate hits before a 70cm barra was landed by me on a Boney. I followed that up with a smaller model on a squidgy fish minutes later. I managed one more good strike in shallow water from a meterey but she did not connect well enough.
We did not hang around too long as the weather turned me of fishing for the day as it was cold and miserable. I am sure though that I will be back again in the not too distant future.
    Cheers
    Matt

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

That gully of yours is looking a bit different now with the water level dropping eh?

Condition of those fish is great.

See you out there tomorrow perhaps.
