    Suggestions for a tow vehicle

Well the tow capacity of the Escape doesnt give me much confidence even with the V6 engine, so i was wondering if anyone could throw suggestions at me for vehicles to look at. I am after a 4WD preferably auto as the missus only has an auto license, 6 cyl, 2000 model onwards and I have a budget of about 17 k. All I really want is something reliable that will tow a 5 m glass halfcab and the odd trip with the trailer to the tip. I am looknig at some long distance towing well by long distance I mean 300 k's each direction tops. Probably not really long distance but I am sure you get the picture. Any suggestions/experience would be greatly appreciated.

How heavy is the boat? Pretty much any mid-size 4x4 will probably do the job ... pathfinder, pajero, prado, challenger, jackeroo, grand cherokee, etc. Not sure how many of those you'll get for under $17k but probably most of them if you're prepared to go back to 2000 and buy a petrol.

Might be able to pick up a Jeep Cherokee auto (as most were) cheap. The guts have fallen out of there resale value due to fuel comsumption(thats the catch)Plenty of people stepping out of them these days.Another in this cat. would be a Landy Discovery.

    G'day,

I reckon you could bargain hard on this. It's as close to the size of the Escape as you will get. It has a chassis and they're not a bad drive. Doesn't seem to have a tow-bar though, but that's easily fixed.
