Re: Qld Govt considering shorter commercial snapper season
absolutely spot on LG I guess in some ways, I was just being silly and "baiting" some replies, but I hope everyone gets what I was about, and by no means am I any sort of Lawyer or Politician, who will be much better armed than I am, I was just "dipping my toes" compared to what would happen in a real World meeting, as I said, been down that Road before here in NSW, we will be toasted if we have no solid (even though dodgey) hard evidence.
Re: Qld Govt considering shorter commercial snapper season
Just to reply to a deleted post.
It has been stated that we are getting green zones in moreton bay because we did not act.
I beg to differ
We are getting green zones in moreton bay as part of a much bigger agenda....... (I am only now understanding how deeply this agenda is intrenched in both policy and document) in spite of may of us writing long submissions and other measures
the government has chosen this path, we hoped to influence its out come.
If you look at what is happening, the government ( et al ) has almost sucseeded in putting in place a complete and seamless conservation blanket up the entire east coast.......this is a significant achievement on their part..... and believe me it is a vote winner and they will campaign on it next election ( probaly februray for the state)
but we lacked and still do the ability to provide an effective campaign to influence any of these measures.
In as much as we are able we must continue to present arguments and a voice in these matters..........however ...........be under no illusion most of the current battles were lost before they were started.
The government and the greens set the agenda and controled what the public saw and therfore believed.
If we are to have any sort of influence in the process in future, and believe me there is a continuing agenda..... we must consider our positions, get better organised, get better information and persist.
as noelm has pointed out ( obtusely ) there are many areas that are wide open for " ammendments to the regulations"
already we have been advised that suiside dillys are underconsideration for a ban.
Crab pots have been identified as a turtle killer.
The animal liberationists hate live baiting in all forms, the average non fisher thinks it is incredibly cruel.
Fishing is walking arround with a target on its back.
We need to address many issues and get some consistent communication going.
None of this will happen overnight and none of this will happen in the space of time the government allows for " public consultation".
We till this point have been several steps behind the game, from this position we have no hope of winning.
We must be ahead of the game to have a chance.
We must become well informed, we must understand the chalenges and we must have views and polocies in place and being communicated before the government sets the agenda.
All of this takes time, all of this need consistent views.
Can we have a significant effect in the next state poll.......very good question..... but we certainly need to get our selves in shape for the next round approacing the following election..... and believe me there will be a next round just like we have just had starting half way thru the next term.
Even if we cant achieve much this time around we need to have a red hot go and get some experience for the next round.
Please understand that is very easy to get the wrong end of someones post on a forum like this, we need to be a little slower to on the trigger and possibly be a little more specific and clear on what we post (I include my self)
