Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent genius will not; un-rewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone is omnipotent."
Ha! done deal and 2 months ago easy, they were just going through the motions, just goes to show what we all really lost last election!
Hear the lady use the line so our kids can see a snapper in years to come -zealots! right through the industry as long as they are making money anything goes.
cheers fnq
All I can say is what a bunch of lying no good self serving mongrels! So much for "nothing has been decided and nothing is in stone". Geez they just finished the presentations and have not had time to read the submissions in 1 day after it closed.
Cheers,
Chris
In their defence, there was a lot of "may" before "happen". I think some of what was said was wishful thinking from the DPI Kiwi. I can't see 4 months happening.

Tim

ah the FnDPI....I still want further clarification on how the came to the conclusion that rec catch and kill 70 percent of the snapper take......did anyone see my thread on netting at moreton? no one cares???
Yeah Mate, I saw it, couldn't agree more. Netting is like stripping a paddock. Nothing left.
The 70% bit's funny, really. The tonnage they use from the pro's is a furfy (how much did they report vs actually catch?) and the rec tonnage is from a phone survey.
The DPI say there are 700,000 fishos in Qld, but Cap'n Bligh said there were 400,000 in the release on Sunday.
So who's right? Where do they get their figures? Damn Twisties packet again.
Tim
Carbon Really Ain't Pollution.
Where did they get the 70% figure from? Even so the last thing we want is the fishery to collapse
I, as one of the representatives of recreational anglers on the Fisheries working group, am shocked and disappointed at the comments in the video.
It appears that Fisheries have already made up their minds about seasonal closures for Recreational anglers ONLY without bothering to wait for the outcomes from next weeks meeting of the RRFF workshop at Mooloolaba.
What a waste of everyone's time holding public meetings and sham RRFF workshops
I was informed yesterday that two new members have been included in the final meeting at Mooloolaba next week. One from the Wide Bay Burnett Conservation Council and the other a charter operator.
The charter operators are against closures for themselves and will fall in line with Commercial Operators in accepting a Total Allowable Catch (TAC) in lieu of closures. Bill Corten, Ray Ozich and I as the representatives of recreational anglers will have a tough time at the meeting but we will give them an ear full.
I will be reminding Charter operators that it is recreational anglers who pay to go out fishing with them.
If the snapper stocks are as critical as Fisheries suggest surely its time to restrict the commercial operators who are having a winge in public but are smiling amongst themselves.
I am really pissed off in how Qld Fisheries have mismanaged the RRFF and the lack of credible information supplied to all concerned.
Cheers
Barry
As well you should be shocked and dissapointed although surprised? probably not considering what has been fortold here already on Ausfish.
It's a far cry walking in 'hat in hand' to attend one of these meetings than walking in with say the ear of an elected state independent member as the recfishing communitys elected voice behind you.
Just imagine walking into a Chinese party delegate meeting or any despotic/dictatorship government meeting without someone powerful solidly behind you.....our system is no different.
More power to you for giving it your all, possibly one more minor twist to go IMO.
cheers fnq
please explain email is on it's way to Brigid......>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

F#%&# me. That sounded pretty much like a done deal. Maybe we should put a class action in place and charge Fisheries for 3 1/2 hour of wasted time at the meetings we attended

I was being a bit optimistic about the process but this shows how easily fooled we have been
If they monitored the impact on the stocks after banning inshore trawling, cleaned up the environment and cracked down on shamatuers and we were still facing stock problems then look at closures but they should not be the easy option. The EPA closures must have some impact and must be taken into consideration

I have been meaning to follow up they model they used to obtain the figures on rec take. They used boat rego (cause every boat fishes of course) + log book survey of 4000 rec's + 2 boimass studies done in 92 and 95 from memory. They plug these values into a model obtained from overseas and then come up with a projection.
I think that scientific analysis by those in the know rather than some grad from cook uni would easily prove the values wrong.
The main issue with this sort of data modelling isthat you cannot "prove" it wrong. You could probably use the same raw data and process it differently and support another conclusion
