Gee nugg ....... I wouldn't have called it for a impoundment barra reel ......... I had a little play with one today ......... very very very nice .... felt every bit as good as my Steez ( might even be lighter)

    Chris

    Type R ..... I played with today

i did not get it for barra, i got it for trevs and jack (hehe and skull draging horse bream off the surface) but i do want to give it a real hard time on some good solid fish, and it's a good reason to get up there and go check it out (iv never been) and iv caught plenty of barra so i now how hard they go, and think they would be a good sport on the alphas.
you no what its like seeing the big silver come up from the depths, once ya get ya first metery, there's no turning back, ya just gotta get a bigger one.

i've just come back from a week a mondy and was running two reels one aplhas (ito ai in my case) and a steez 100h.

after a fair few casts over the week i would definitely say my aplhas was just as good as the steez as far as castign heavier lures and slickies goes anyway. We didn't hook a single barra so can't comment on the fish fighting ability.

sounds like good buying to me well done...

    Re: so fricken happy

ok feild report time then, i got it first thing sat morn and just holding it in my hands, i new i had what i was looking for, its light as but felt verry solid. 15mins later i was at the cannals. first cast and it fell a bit short of where i wanted it to go and i hardly thumed it at all and no birdsnest ok , a quick ajustment of the spool knob and back the mag force z off a bit and the next cast i over shot the jetty by 5 meters ok that was unexspeted. third cast, bang on the money and bream dart out and start smacking stacks lucky craft sammy 65 he let me use, i did not hook any so this time i wanted to see how far i could get, i punch it out into the wind and it go's a mile , this thing is awsome i thort and i cant belive im casting a 7g lure on 20-30lb braid that far. i floged the hole place and got hit after hit on the sammy but did not get one hook up from the bream(just bad luck there they did not find the hooks) and got 3 good hits from trevs and a awsome jack implosion that failed to find the hooks (i just love clear water). the place got the better of me so i changed spots and went to target some cod as i had to atleast get one fish on the new weapon. i got to kawana and started floging the place with the sammy again and the cod would not hit the surface, so on when a cultiva mirra shad and hay it can cast it just far enuff to work the bank and they did not want that so on with a reble wee crawdeep and hay hay i can cast that too but again still no cod, i started to loose faith in my old faithful cod bank untill after a nother lure change i finally get my first fish on the new alphas, it was a cod and it scofed my chubbie right down his gob. the cod did not pull any drag and the reel had plenty of power, i just wish it was a bigger cod to test it out a bit better. i did not get any more fish that day. the next day i floged the cannals again and the sammy was getting hit over and over again but once again no hook ups, i was getting frustrated and ended up useing my loomis and getting a stack of bream and whiting on smaller hb's (the ones too small to cast on the alphas). at the end of the weekend im inlove with my new reel. it casts awsome has a killer drag(i put a hook in stacks ear and got him to run around with full drag pressure. it was fun) and is verry verry light and just a dream to use. its the best iv ever used and would gladly get a nother 3 of them. if the alphis is this good, i cant wait to try a zillion. bring on the barra, its skull draging time

ps get a alphas, they rock

    Re: so fricken happy

Well nugg ....... Sounds like you've made the right choice 7 g lures on a baitcaster- gotta be happy

As far as Zillion Vs Alphas ...... The Zillion will be a let down (PE or Anniversary models would be cool) - Anyhow the Zillion is a more rugged & better suited reel for them barra

Now try to find a Alphas Type R to play with ........ SWEEEET

    good stuff

    Re: so fricken happy

ok thanks mate. i will try and find one to have a go. 4g is the lightest i can go on it so far but with a bit more pratice and a new spool and a few other things, i recon i can go lighter. im just stoked i can cover all my bases with the one reel, well for all the fishing that i do anyway. now i just have to lurn how to catch the red fish
    figjam
