    Stella 20000 rod to suit

Hi guys, after much procrastinating I have purchased a Stella 20000 (not the new gold one). I have been using an upgraded Spheros (50lb braid) matched to a 24 - 37 kg platinum series ugly stick which has done the job but always wanted something top notch.

I will be using it mainly drifting the shoals in about 50 - 80m of water where my mates and I target red emperor and large mouths. So what rod for this sort of bottom bashing on these bruises would you guys recommend?

    Cheers

To be honest, I wouldn't have a clue, never been in the market for anything like that myself. but the best advice I can give is march yourself into Pro Tackle and ask the blokes there, a wealth of knowledge and they won't just sell you the most expensive thing there if you don't need it.

T curve deep jig 200 or 400, 200 jig is 199 from M# Tackle, and the 400 is 239 from the same place. In saying that there is also the shimano jigwrex range of rod as well. They range from 14kg, 18 and 37kg rods and are all 249 from Mo T. Anyway the list is endless there is also daiwa rods which are a bit exy (600), I'm just going by what I've seen and heard about these rods.

Thumbs up Re: Stella 20000 rod to suit

The T-Curve 400 [37kg] has good grunt where needed and a soft enough tip section for using baits, and is there for jigging as well. I think the 200 [24kg] might be a bit light for the reel. Tackle World are selling their present stock at near cost to clear for a revamped model.

I have the jigwrex s605 300g jig weight and 60lb braid jigging rod and the saltiga 80tn 30-100g and pe 6 . 17 kg drag casting rod both for my stella 20000.
But for bottom bouncing i use an accurate 270 on a interline.

Looking at all the off the shelf options I feel the Jigwrex S605 is the closest.

    Thanks for your input fellas.

i dont believe you gain any thing much spending$$$$$$ ON a expensive rod for emperor. as you know emperor and nanygui love to sit around the one little bit of structure amongst a bed of soft corals or fern. 7 out of 10 guys will revert back to100 lb line plus gloves and as it is the only way to get them up fast enough before they pin you. this said iam one of those who prefer to stick to a rod and am reasonably pleased with the result as i adapted a method of a old timer i took out.

firstly the rod is only about four feet long and has a long butt end. after watching him it fell into place. there's not much point in having much bend as it will only mean he will brick you before you get line in which is easy to understand.

secondly by having a long but end you can let the rod nestle on the side of the boat as well as still room for being in the gimble ( its all about not letting them get that first bit of downward movement) sure saves the back

thirdly by having a shortish rod when you you grab the leader to pull in your fish your rod will stand up from the floor not laying across the boat sticking into the poor bloke on the other side especially as it takes two hands to reef a beauty in.

quite frankly a 24 kg rod that had the first foot to 18 inches broken off will fish probably better than or as good as any expensive outfit after all its about getting that first ten feet or its all over.

    welcome to the red club

The T-curve 400 is the best option for you mate....If you dont wish to get into serious $$$$$.

Like Greg said....You will get a great buy at the moment.

Robbo, IMO the Jigwrex is a jigging rod only, if you are targeting Reds and Large Mouths with baits you need a bit of give that the lighter tipped T-Curve have or a bit more parabolic like the Gary Howard 6ft [longer butt] Samurai NV9. I use all those rods plus JigMaster for jigging but I have found a place in bait fishing for the T-Curves models, they are well priced at the mome nt [some places $200]
