Transducer Position

Apologies if this has been done to death folks, or if this post is in the wrong place, but can anyone comment on the attached photos?

Is this transducer too high?

looking at that 2st pic, it probably wouldn't hurt to tilt it down just 1 more click....

i would also lower it another 1cm.

forgot to add..... if thast a lowrance, and it looks like it is.. have a look in the Sounder Reading thread in this sub forum, i have my pics in there... similar/same hull shape as yours

are you asking because you are having problems with the sounder ? if so what problems are you having? i run a lowrance also and looking at your pick i agree it needs to be angled down a little,,,

it looks a smidge high and also maybe needs angling forwards a smidgin. but like has been said, what's the problem? does it work at speed or not? i'm guessing the reason for the post is that it doesn't work at speed.

Yes, I am not getting a good reading at speed, even the reading at anchor isnt great.

I saw the pics from Local_Guy in the sounder section and checked my transducer position..... I thought it looked more than a little high.

I will talk your advice and both lower and tilt it down a little. Hope it makes a difference.

Hows it goin mate

you arent getting a good reading as the transducer is copping disturbance from the hull you need to lower it so it sits in cleaner water

As stated already lowering it and angling it will solve the problem

I agree with other comments - it looks way too high.

A suggestion on how to get the right height: run a straight edge (ruler or something similar) against the underneath of the hull in line with the transducer so you can see how the water will flow from the hull past the transducer (hope you follow what I'm trying to say there!!)

In my experience on alloy hulls like yours you will need the mid-line of the transducer to be 5mm or so below this "water line" to get a good signal at speed. It might throw a bit of spray around, but give it a go. Also, as others have suggested, the trailing edge of the trasducer could probably be one "click" lower.

One way to potentially check whether it is the Transducer position that is the main problem is to do a long turn at reasonable pace steering towards the side that your Transducer is mounted on i.e. if your Transducer is mounted on your port side then do a long turn to port.

This will "bury" your Transducer much deeper than in normal running and it should start to read the bottom if the problem is simply that it is not mounted deep enough.

Livewell pump pickup looks pretty close & protrudes deeper, might be aerating water as well - worth looking at.
