Are you sick of cleaning the little buggers yet.
They sure taste fine chilled down with a cold beer to go.

Well done on the Spanners mate, best eating crab I reckon. Your the first person ive seen catch them on here, I thought I was the only ausfisher that bothered to target them.

Even though they are caught year round I find this time of year produces the biggest and on average about a dozen per tray with most of them being large keepers.

I went out a few weeks back and bagged out (40) in about 2 hours, pics below:

Craige is it worth icing them down or just keep em in salt water bath?

    Garry,

Both ways are fine. although if out for a long day in the heat take the ice.

A lot of our Spanner sessions involve sending the gear down on the way out when fishing, then collecting the gear on the way home. At times the gear can soak for 5 or 6 hrs or more. Naturally this plan is fraught with danger as sharks and turtles help themselves to a feed. We regularly find the 2 claws of a crab clinging to the trap and no carapace in between !!
The pic above was from 8 traps and one pull after a 7 hour soak for 45 keepers.

I have regularly watched the pro guys return to port at 1770. There crabs look like they are still alive and no ice ?

    Cheers
    Craigie.
