    Grunter

Family and I went fishing at Alligator Creek today (South of Mackay). Middle son caught our first Sooty Grunter. Now we know why they are called Grunters...how on earth do they make that sound like a pig??
Luckily I followed up by catching 2 more......none keepers, but going back earlier tomorrow to try our luck again.

were you fishing in the fresh than?
if you were in the salt they are not sootys, they are javelin fish (grunter).
they make that noise by grinding plates in their mouth, how big are they & how about a pic? grunter are one of the best eating fish getting around.

We were fishing on the incoming tide, probably about 15km from the creek entrance, so you would be right. The would have been Javelin fish. Thanks for the headsup, appreciate the correction.
