Mid north coast NSW, generally fishes best between December and July, the strong prevalent spring-time northerlies don't do much good.
Great beach, river, estuary, inshore, offshore, take your pick, weather permitting.
Been doing it tough last few months, although the flatties are coming on, better water will come down in summer.
I believe offshore action out of Coffs this time of year is pretty good when the better water comes in out wide.
Relatively uncrowded unless it is school holidays, extremely beautiful natural features.
    Cheers.

Iluka/Yamba north coast of NSW does it for me.

There are just so many options available; outside (weather permitting), boating in the river, land based in the river, the beaches, headlands, the breakwater walls, and so on.

Iluka is so quiet it's a bit freaky, but you quickly get used to it. There's any number of spots you can try within walking distance of cheap accommodation. Pump yabbies up the river a bit, worms from Main Beach and pippies from Shark Bay. Then there's the country itself. It has to be one of the nicest places I've been to. If things are a bit quiet on the fishing front, then you can just take in the scenery. All this with an easy drive in under 4 hours from home.

This time in four weeks today I'll be there.

Not saying as I don't want any of you buggers knowing the best place in the world.
Well, pretty well the best place in Aus.

Ooh well might as well say where......Melbourne. There I said it so everybody can go there to experience the best fishing in Aus.
But please don't try and find me. I'm shy

Maybe thousands of people might read this and go down to Melbourne, and in doing so, leaving the 'other' great spots crowd free for people who might appreciate them a bit more.
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

I like Redcliffe Peninsula because it has inshore reefs accessible by small boats, a lot of variety in fish to be caught there, minimal tidal run for the most part and you can usually find a place that is fishable out of the winds. On a good day its very easy to slip accross to the shipping channels or Moreton Island in a realtively small boat for a different experience to hugging the coastline.

townsville is the main place i fish, it's got everything here estuary to blue water, the reef to billfish. i have only a smallish boat but it's nice to know i can go 15-20 mins from the ramp & hook into some mighty fish, nothing better than catching huge fish out of a small boat!

    Nigel,

Don't tell everyone, just add a few jewies, pearl perch, snapper, estuary perch, bass, crabs, and top local spot for Mangrove Jack, and fifty klms or so and the odd trout. SSHH! we shouldnt let them know.

    Regards Trev

P.S. how did the mods go with the boat.

I like our current spot in the mouth of a creek in Brisbane, where we can beach our canoe on a sand bar and walk up and down it flicking plastics into a channel for whiting and flathead

I live and fish in the Illawarra region of NSW, I guess the big attraction is the range of quality Fishing available to us, an added bonus is most of the ramps are Harbour types of things and unless there is some sort of Cyclonic conditions, then no dodgey Bars need to be negotiated (except for the Pub of course) we have Marlin, Sharks, "proper" big Tuna, Dolphin Fish, for the Game guys, Deep Water dropping for Blue Eye and Gemfish and other "ooglies" Flathead and most other drifter styles of Fish, Snapper and stuff for the more "serious" Bait/softie Fishers, then Crabbing in the Lakes along with probably some of the best Prawning around, plus all the usual Lake/River stuff as well, then more good beaches than you could Fish in a thousand years, gees is there anything else??

I'm with Ronnien, Spoilt rotten up here in Townsville. When the seasons on
Macks on the weed beds 15mins from the Ramp. Barra in every estuary (art to catching these tricky fish. Crabbing in excellent proportions. Big prawns galore caught by castnet. Offshore fishing that absolutely goes off.

Some unstoppables up here that are just awesome to have a go at....

Fresh or Salt, great fishing, great weather, not freezing in winter, Gees I'd better shut up or everyone will be heading north!!!

My fishing area is soon to be a green zone thanks to the ugliest woman in politics. That is nundah creek.

Cant wait to see the fisheries guys trying to navigate the reef there at low tide. I will be sitting in plain view of the boat ramp just on the other side of the reef witha camera!!

I suppose we're lucky down south to have "some water" left in a few places with many impoundments inaccessable or dry.

The Murray is receding close to me yet still fishable from the bank.

Boating isn't an option any longer. A canoe or kayak would be ok.

Feeling for you 2manylures, hope that things turn around for you. Hate to see the end of the Murray Cod after they have worked so hard over the years to bring the species back.

    Stay positive..

Being from tassie i would say the biggest atraction for me would be the lack of to much pressure on our fisheries.A population of around 450 000 ensures there is plenty for all. Also the prestine enviroment we fish in is magnificant.
