I did scoot over to the ramp late yesterday afternoon for a flick before dinner but when I got there and seen three ski boats lined up to come out I quickly forgot that idea and continued to drive on past. By the time they all got out of the way it would've left me little time to fish.
Not bothering to get up early, I woke to the sound of the kids, hitched the boat and was on the water by 0800. This session was going to be timber lures only. Amongst my arsenal were Tilsan Barras, Nilsmaster Spearheads and some Richo's Extractors.
The conditions were against me however, with the wind blowing stiffly down the river, denying me the opportunity to place consecutive casts into the lanes between the lilly pads. It's times like this that I appreciate having the super high speed Zillion- allowing me to retrieve the lure fast once it's out of the likely strike zone.
The first and only fish for the morning came to the party at 0850 to the tune of a gold Tilsan Barra. It took the lure late- the lure must've been a good meter or two from the extremities of the lillies- almost the point at which I burn the lure back to be hurredly recast before blowing past the lane. It measured approx 60-65cm and put up a good account of itself. The split down the belly of the lure a testament of the fight.
I fished for another hour or two but my struggle with the wind was enough for me trying to position the boat let alone affording me time to tie on different lures, so the Extractors and Spearheads didn't see any action today. There'll be more morning glory woods to come.
