Knew you coudn't stay away from the site Trev with just a couple of days to go. I'am already checking out the reports with 3 weeks to go - see you up there on the 8th Nov. My friend Tom was up there over the full moon - spoke to him today and said they had only one hook-up for the whole week & his arms were sore from chucking plastic. Also said water temp down around 22deg. Had a fantastic trip to the Swain Reefs week before last so now time for a dose of freshwater

    Merv,

Looking forward to it again, guess the Lake is due for a kick start. The quieter they are now the more chance for a pickup during the three weeks.
Will be there from Sat to Nov15. Hope to catch up with you.
New boat is ready, but not motor, just have to go with old setup this trip and do it again in about March with other rig.
    Looking forward to catching up.
Pauline wants to know are you retired now, seem to have a lot of time to go fishing. (joining the rest of us?)

    Regards

We had booked for two weeks, then had to change sites when we extended for the three weeks. Just a matter of moving the camper down a few sites for the last week. Its getting busier all the time. The place was crowded at Easter and again by all accounts during the Mondy comp this month. But still lots of places in that lake to get away.

All good just enjoy Mondy, although this will be the last trip for this year.

    Nath,

Always good to sit down and discuss fishing and people thoughts and be willing to learn and try new ideas.

Nowadays seem to trying to apply all the ideas and incorporate then in my style of fishing. Sitting down casting and with limited movements around boat to land fish. Lucky I have a good deckie (the better half for over 38yrs who loves fishing).

Thank god for the old bow mount, when the body slows you down, you have to try a think a bit smarter, about what you can achieve.

Fishing is about adapting what equipment you have with your own abilities and enjoying the experience.

Yeah that's the trick Trev, My deckie is a small 6 year old she wont let me out of her sight I reckon this trip but we are there for a couple of weeks so I look forward to getting her into another big fish like she nailed last year.

    Till then

Re: monduran very very slow (short report)

We had 3 boats up there Fr/Sat/Sun. My first attempt at a impoundment barra, but the other 2 boats very experienced guys from Bribie SFC.

We thrashed the water to foam casting frogs, both my arms fell off. Trolled lures of every kind/depth known to exist and just about wore out the Honda 15!

Result? Between 8 anglers, a total of 2 small barra from Bird Bay both on zoom horny toads, plus 2 catties. A couple of more half-hearted bumps/semi-hookups, but that was it. Very quiet, many people reporting no fish to speak of for a couple of weeks. Consensus was that we need the northerlies to warm things up.

So we lost the battle, but the war is far from over yet, we've not given up!

Water temp 23-24.5 at best. Very little bait movement or activity on the water. A few very dead very large barra seen in the shallows. Cold temps Fri/Sat nights.

Interesting Grant, dead barra, no bait, dirty marks on boats..... Sounds a water problem I know last ime there the water did look a little weird. Might be something going on. I hope what ever it is it clears up and a few get caught.

IMO Grant....We have had a long Winter and still feeling the effects of it.....I assure u when the hot weather kicks in Monduran will be at her best....This place can dehydrate u in a full day's fishing in Summer even with fluids on board.....keep watching this forum for reports.......Cheers Whitto PS I going to Mondy in 2 wks hoping Mother nature is playing the game by then

It's not just Mondy, Awoonga has been the same. Heats up a bit and you pull a few fish, then cools down to 22 degrees again and fishing becomes harder again. Once the weather stabilizes it will be on. Just have to be here at the right time at the moment. Cheers scott.

Guess that should happen sometime in the next few weeks. Always good to get away and enjoy the serenity.

The fish and company are all bonuses from each trip.
