Trevally at the Seaway- Any advice???

Hey everyone...

Went for a trip to the Seaway on the Gold Coast, around the mouth and saw school of trevally busting up at random intervals but couldnt get them interested in anything.... tried smallish metal lures, soft plastics lightly weighted, live baits etc.... Was using 5kg leader if that makes any difference???

Any tips would be great, thanks

Not real sure on the Trevally but was just wondering if that was the boat ramp at coochin creek in your avator where your holding the Jack

They *usually* smash metals mate.....from boat, I favor 20->40gm...LB 40gm+ (65gm seems to be the most productive)

leader I use in the Seaway is 30lb+, so 5kg shouldn't shy them away!

Sometimes they just aren't interested...that's fishing

I agree with frankgrimes, my first choice is small metal lures. Size depends what they are chasing. Second option would be to go with a sp of appropriate size. I would use leader heavier than 5kg, leader of that size should of been an advantage. Sometimes you can't win.

ive caught a fair few in there on the tt lures slugs, i think its a 20g, and the gold ones arent bad on dusk either as for line i normally use a 6-12lb mainline and leader and yeah i have lost a couple like mentioned before, but ive probably caught a few more in the process. one day for a laugh we trolled the end of the northern wall with a xrap 30+ on a jigging rod and cleaned up a couple, so im sure they'll take the smaller ones if there in the mood, the lure was a blue with the black dots down its flanks. and as mentioned also sometimes they just wont take anything... and yeah, thats fishing

Hey mick wats ur techinque from a boat?? I can catch them off the seaway but Im still yet 2 get 1 in my boat ive bn trying to park in the middle and cast along the edge cast along the middle and still cant get a hit???

Technique - Mix it up as much as possible mate

Think about how a bait fish behaves....randomly!

- Try diff. depths(i.e. let metal sink)...best GT's I've got from seaway are from when I've let my lure sink near to the bottom, then ripped it back to the boat
- During retrieve, yank your rod tip to vary speed
- Vary your retrieve rate
- Lift rod high to skip metal across surface

There's plenty of Trevs in the Seaway...put the time in and you'll soon discover what works....I find most productive times(For GT's) are just on day break(If you want stinky big eyes, then dark)
