Brian - I run a Humminbird snorkel and mask model - gives you the best image possible.

It is not much good at speed and bloody useless at night.

But it doesn't matter if the battery is flat.

Funny stuff Darryl and Navi, like I said, the mental image is...............
I see no ones wrapped the furuno??
Im wondering why Hummingbird seems to have a large following in the sweet water compared to the other brands?

I have a matrix 17 Hummingbird. the Hummingbirds are a good unit at a reasonable price. Mine has GPS so I can find my way back to the ramp at Monduran. It is essential, for espicially at night, I usually plot a safe track in the daylight on the dams so I can then move through without hitting snags etc.

Nav needs the snorkel and mask system because he has to go down to retrieve his rods from time to time.
(Nav I actually had to go in yesterday myself and get one from the bottom. Salt bloody water to so it is prolly buggered, what was I thinkin) and no Jacks!

I know the salties like the Furunos but we are not searching fathoms and check out the prices.

Most of my Money is spent on Booze and Fishin.
    The Rest is just Wasted!

    Apologies for going off topic
No you can't. Side imaging looks out to the side in a 1 degree slice perpendicular to the boat.
Your lures when trolling are behind the boat.

So what is the concensus on Humminbird side image units in the salt ? They look great for fresh water. I was looking hard at the Furuno 585 unit until I saw the side image unit. Predominately interested in chasing bait (blue water game fishing) so I'm guessing that the side image concept has got to be the way to go ?

Anyone had any experience with Humminbird's throughhull transducer for the SI unit?
