How Good Are Your Underwater Eyes?

Im in the midst of decideing whether to upgrade the main sounder on the quinny to a Furuno 620, and leave the little Lowrance X52 up the bow.
Just wondering, what sounders are you guys running, have you thrown the coin at a nice sounder, or are you running a cheapy, and happy to stay that way?

    cheers

I replaced my X52 with a Garmin 187c colour combo. There is no comparison between the two and money well spent i think. I am also going to mount the 52 on a yak when i get one.

Hello Brian, I run a Hummingbird 787 mounted on the bow with transducer on electric and have a Hummingbird 997 side imaging sounder also on the bow with transducer on back, black and white lowrance x87 at the back. Nice to look at but hasn't put any more fish in the boat. Have a furuno 585 in big boat, works really well, so you shouldn't go wrong with the 620. cheers scott.

Hey mate I did last year I went the Garmin 330c , was going to go the furuno they are a great sounder, but the garmin was at the right price. For the choice of fishing I do it works a treat. In saying all that the only reason I up-graded was because the other failed on me and would not work or it would be still there.

I'm running a Lowrance LMS 332 on the console and a LMS 522 up front in the hornet. I also use the 522 in my canoe. both worth their weight in gold IMO. I have no trouble locating fish, bait and structure with these units however Getting those big yellow bananas on the screen to eat my lures is another story though!!

I wish I had my old 1Kw JRC Colour cathode display in the hornet ........ It was that good - you could see what the fish were thinking in 200M

I'm running a X135 off the leccy & a LMS327 at the helm ........ both OK but nothing exceptional

if I had the dosh ...... i'd run a Interphase forward scanning unit off the leccy

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

Brian, I have Humminbird 987. Has many features which I am sure I dont use to its full potential but I do love the size of the screen and when running split screens they are both still easy to read. Much more interesting viewing colour also. Humminbird also seems to keep updating the firmware so you get a continually improving product. - Richard

    Hi all.
I'm running a Humminbird 777 colour on the bow with a quad beam transducer on the Minnkota and a Humminbird 797c2 side imaging unit at the console of my 445 Hornet. I have both units linked together with the Humminbird System Interlink, which transfers GPS information to both units and also the Humminbird weather sense.
Since I got these units, my catch rate has increased dramaticaly.

I have a Lowrance LCX 38C HD DF in my Webster which I use for all my freshwater applications.

When trolling the Murray I know within a couple of seconds of running over or through a submerged snag if/when a fish will hit my lure going by boat speed, drop back, depth & scroll position. I should also mention I run my lur on the transducer side of the boat.
    .
Very happy with this unit & it’s performance in both shallow river/lake & deep lake applications when downrigging trout & salmon in 10ft to 150ft of water.

I suppose experience with & what one is used too would be the main key ingrediences.

So I'd say I'm very happy with my underwater eyes.

Can you see your lure when trolling in shallow water {10ft-15ft} with the side imaging?

    Apologies for going off topic

Red face Re: How Good Are Your Underwater Eyes?

I have a piece of pvc pipe with perspex stuck across the end. It works much better now with the hummingbird sticker on it.

It is not much good at speed and bloody useless at night.

But it doesn't matter if the battery is flat.

The mental picture of operating THAT sounder at speed is staggering
